Default Wierd Noise

When I shift my automatic into reverse to pull out of my parking spot, I hear a click from the left rear. This started before putting the new motor in, and now I'm worried I'm gonna break something! :smash:

The half-shafts both have new solid-cross design U-joints and the driveshaft has new joints too, but they have grease zerks (Precision joints). Both of the rear hub bearings are new too. I'm running out of things to do cor this clicking sound!

I also hear it when decelerating, after a hard tromp on the gas pedal. The clicking sound sounds very metallic and that's what I'm worried about. Those of you that have heard a U-Joint that is dry know what I'm talking about. Same kind of noise.

Suggestions appreciated.

I don't think I would worry Paul. I think the clicking you hear is the same that I have on my 74. It's the brake pads moving a little in their holders. I hear mine when I back out and when I come to the first stop. After that they've set themselves and don't make any more noise. They have to be a little loose to move freely in the holder and that's what causes that metallic sound. It's actually the metal backing of the brake pad clicking against the metal of the caliper which is mounted solidly and doesn't move. If you want to you can take a look at the pads and make sure the cotter pins are in place. If they are I would just chalk the noise up to another of the idiosyncracies of these cars. Gotta love them. Hope this helps.

OK then I'm gonna take my chances. Any other takers out there??? :lurk:

It sure does sound logical....and yep I've certainly heard brake pad noise but it's always been when a car is MOVING. This happens when I put it into gear while stopped only...

But it's a warm T-Top day today in SD <<sorry Eastern Folk  >> and I'm gonna put some more miles on it, and of course now that I'm running premium, I've gotta send my share of $$ to Saudi Arabia today. :yesnod:

Yeah I have a Suggestion, My Corvette is a C4 but does the same thing, The damm car has like 6 universal joints so I dont know which on clicks. SOmetimes when I shift the car even when I'm already stoped it clicks and sometimes JUMPS.

We had the same problem in our 1985 GMC truck so we changed all the Universal joints and the clicking stoped.

By the way , your still up? I cannot fall asleep, its like 1:30AM! :D ;)
