Default 1975 hood air duct question

My L48 hood has a air duct with a damper controlled by a throttle position switch. When the gas pedal is down, the damper in the air duct is powered open. My question is the inlet of the air duct has (13) 11/32 holes for air to pass through. Would it be a big advantage to increase the size or number of holes to at least equal the free area of the damper? Seems like the air flow is choked down a bit the way is presently is. I am guessing it was the L82 that had an additional intake on top of the hood for to allow for more air, but still used the same damper and duct setup?

Mine was unhooked so I finally took the whole thing out so fresh air can flow through all the time. You may want to check to see if it is functioning, if not I would either replace it or remove it.

I am not sure what holes you are talking about because my 73 just has a screen to keep big stuff from being suck in. I added a K&N 11" lid to help pull more air in and would like to add ducts to draw cool air from the front of the rad. If you have room to add more holes than do it. every little bit helps.

My '75 also has what the above poster is talking about-just a black plastic "mesh screen" with square holes. This other piece you're talking about may have been added by another owner. My solenoid which opens the air door rusted or came off it's bracket, so I too just removed my solenoid and door completely so it's open to breathe in air there all the time. :steering:

Paul, is the black mesh screen you are referring to on the end of the duct facing the windshield? It is possible this car has an aftermarket hood, never crossed my mind until you mentioned it.

Yes, I forget exactly how it attaches, but it's at the end of the hood duct closest to the windshield. :steering:
