Default Need a Gear Mathemetician

Heck I can't even spell it! :blueangel:

Assume the following is true:

* A bloke's Tach stopped working :cuss
* He has 225/70r15 rubber ~ 27.4 inches tall
* He has a Turbo 350 with first gear=2.48 and second gear=1.48
* He has a 3:08 Posi rear end
* He Needs to Know! where to approximate 5,000 shifts at what speed out of first and second gear?? :cheers:

Who knows how to figure that one out?? I'm ready to romp on the 388 but the tach don't tach no more :mad :rolleyes:

50 mph 1st gear
87 mph 2nd gear
130 mph 3rd gear
Ought to be pretty close. These are the numbers from my car, the only difference is it is a TH400 and I have 255/50-15 meats, that are about 26.6" tall.
I know this because I ran it through the gears today :D 130 was fun and the ZZ4 got there real fast! :lol:
If you want a tach you can do what I did, I went to Autozone and bought a $35.00 Sun tach and a big hose clamp, and put it on my steering column until I decide to either convert my tachdrive distributor to HEI or install a 75 electronic tach in the dash.

SMOKEmUP.com has a very easy to use calculator for determining RPM vs. speed at this link> http://www.smokemup.com/auto_math/mph_range2.php

Thanks all!

Tonight it got beat up hard! :cheers: :flag :conehead :hat

Errr, Ahh, my foot got stuck. .... errrrr, ahhhh I was in a hurry .... :D :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod: :lol: :yesnod: :lol:

I visited the engine builder and the first Q he asked was what the Dyno readings were. I told him that we have been REAL busy at The Dyno Shop and my car was last on the list .... :mad

He reminded me that I can do whatever the heck I wanna do with the motor. So I took off out of his parking lot and got on it hard. ... it surprised the hell outta me! Whooooaaaaaaa them Reindeer!

Of course, with 3:08 gears I was headed for the freeway. And my foot got stuck again :lol: :lol: :lol: :yesnod: :lol: :yesnod: :lol: :blueangel: :blueangel: Honest, it was an accident! :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

Well, the good news is, that I didn't need to call a tow truck. My only prob was not knowing the RPM band I was in ... and your information above helps. Heck I don't think I even broke 4500 and it was awesome!
