Let's play, name that part...
So what's the vacuum looking solenoid on the back side of the tach for? I noticed bubba has it blocked off.
Maybe be due to the HEI distrib in the car and the secondary tach he had installed in the cockpit?

That is the windshield wiper door vacuum solenoid ports vacuum to the door when you turn the wipers on.

Ditto. Must have had some wiper problems. Check out a vaccum diagram and you will see how the hoses connect to it.

Yep, that's what it is. They're tough to find. I have a spare "just in case". There was a NOS one on EBAY a few weeks ago with a reserve of $125.00. Chuck

I'll take it off your hands just to have a spare.   If it dosen't work when you get your vacuum system done, it can be take apart and cleaned. See C3 tech tips, there is a procedure. There should also be an electrical connector plugged into it.

There are two vacuum hoses that connect to this thing and one "port" originally came with a small white foam filter on it. My filter port was capped also. This is a Bubba fix for inproperly working wiper door. After I cleaned it and removed this cap my door works perfectly. Look in the archives for posts relating to troubleshooting the door if yours dosen't work when you get it back together.......there is a bunch of info on this subject there.

Long day in hell before I"d pay 100+ bux for one o those...even NCRS does not look up under dashes in local shows anyway.....
thing to do is go to junkyard look for mid 80's Dodge 3/4 ton van...up top in center of open hood is a vacuum solenoid....I have one on my van...I dunno what i'ts function is..as it's not troublesome....at any rate, I did prove it works the same action as the GM one on our vettes.....have at it...
