Shifter rattle?
My stock shifter starts rattling like crazy between 4000 and 5000 RPM. Does anyone else have this problem? If so,how did you cure it? I saw a deluxe rebuild kit in Eckler's for it. Has anyone used this kit? If so, what difference did this kit make in the shifter? I want to get it taken care of while the snow is on the ground. Thanks

The first thing I would do is check and make sure your linkage rods are tight and the mounting brackets are tight. As in, "C" clip springs in all the connections, front and rear of rods.
If all shifting rods are tight, I would take the shifter out, take it apart and check for wear. If no major wear, grease and replace.
Because the shifter is bolted to the frame and then the engine, it could be engine vibration causing the rattle.
Hope this helps.

Nice shark vert! It is the reverse lockout, or the entire shifter? I recently finished a complete "refresh" of my entire assembly to address a few minor issues that come with age, so let me know if I can help.

Even with everything tight some of them rattle. I put a small spring down inside the shifter, which gave it a bit of preload toward 3-4. Rattle went away, no effect on shifting.
