Default Interior Code 762 in a 1978 corvette?

I have a 78 Silver Anniversary Edition corvette. B2Z paint 07M/13U which is the 2 tone silver. My interior is 762 {leather} which has confused me for a while. Some books and literture call it Saffron and some state Mahogany..What gives? Does this mean, the dash and seats are mahogany and the carpet is Saffron?
When I ordered the carpet I got Saffron and when I had the seats done they are a different color as is the door panels. Looks like the leather is one color and the carpet on them is something else{saffron}.
Can anyone clear this up for me.
I will post a picture of the stuff here in a while.

Hey Nomad:

You've got the exact color combo (762) I've got on my 78 SA...what's your build date. Mine is Nov 10 77.

Saffron and Magogany is one in the same color...no difference. Your colors should match throughout your interior. I've got a 32k original car and the interior is in excellent condition and matches well. Years ago I pickup a set of floor mats and they match perfectly. Recently, I picked up some saffron dye through mid america, used it on a couple of vinyl kick panels and it matches nicely.

If you had the seats redone...they're colors aren't right. My 762 is a perfect match to the vinyl door panels...I mean perfect! In fact, I had rear speaker panels made from ACC which are carpet covered and they matched them perfectly to the 25 year old carpet. Who are you using as a vendor?

Here is the pic. The flash made the carpet look lighter close to the camera.

The reason I ask is because I bought a seat of 80 seat shells and Saffron dye from corvette america which I have not used yet to dye them with. I am also looking to purchase a new dash and was wondering if there was any difference in the colors.
The 80 seats were hand made in the 78 color Saffron and ordered through Gary Gruhala and the carpet was ACC and the door panels came through Corvette america as well as the rear compartment stuff.
The items look close to being the same.
I was just wondering if Saffron and Mahogany were the same .

The seats are not 78 seats...they look like 78-82 style...In fact they may be camel from 82 code 642. The carpet shade looks about right though. Do the door panels match the seats or are the seats darker? See the carpet on the door panels look too dark as well. 762 is closer to the carpet in the picture.

did those seats come out of the car and you had them redone or are they new?

I had the regular high back 78 seats and got rid of them. These are new 80 seats in 78 Saffron color and yes the seats and panels are the same color. The carpet all loos to be the same to. The camera, shadows and plastic makes the panel carpet look darker but it is not.
My Build Date is DECEMBER 12th 1977

So your VIN is about 10xxx something. Well as you know the mahogany looks cool with the silver. I saw a 2000 silver C5 with the firethorn interior...almost identical to the mahogany color. I took some pics of the C5 next to my 78.

Anyway...looks like you're on your way...I wouldn't worry about the shade differences...it'll still look sharp!

does your saffron interior have leather or cloth seats? mine was originally cloth, but the owner before the person whom i bought the car from had the covers removed and leather covers added. DUMBAZZ!

Neil:

All I can say is saffron/magonany is a tough color to match. I would use the dye on saffron leather seats..leave them as is. But you will find color shade differences between the different items, leather seats, vinyl dash and ACC carpet. the materials are different and its' difficult for different vendors to get the dyes to match.

I would assemble as is and then determine if you like the look you have before attempting to dye.

Perhaps I was not clear. The seats are new leather as the door panels.
The dye is for the Seat Shells not in the picture which are a dark claret color. I will also be dying or redying some of the interior plastic pieces to give them a new look. I am getting ready to order a new dash and was wondering if Mahagony and Saffron were two different colors. I will be dying some of my steering column componets soon so I will get to see how the dye comes out then.

Brendan, Yes mine came with a Leather interior but I have replaced the seats with 80 seats with 4" bolsters but covered in the 78 Saffron color to match the rest of the interior.

Looking 25 year old stuff then looking at new stuff makes you think..hum.. that is what it is suppose to look like..I just don't want to open all the sealed plastic until I get closer to start installing some of the items.
