Since the dog's out of the bag, here's a peek...
Here’s what I’ve come up with so far via DD2000.
Engine RPM.. HP...Torque
2000............146....384
2500............194....408
3000............245....429
3500............310....465
4000............378....497
4500............447....522
5000............509....535
5500............556....531
6000............584....511
6500............598....483
7000............597....447
7500............591....414
8000............559....367
The bore is 4.125 with a 3.65 stroke. Canfield 220 Heads flowing at .600 lift: intake 322/ ex 231. The cam isn’t too aggressive, mech roller Doug Herbert #CCH2, total dur is 285 intake & exhaust, lift is .567 both intake & exhaust with 110 lobe c. SCR is 11.14 (I still need to have custom pistons made). I’m using 1000cfm w/ tunnelram selected (Holley Stealthram), This is with large tube headers and mufflers. This doesn't quite give me the full 600hp, pretty darn close ;) .
I'm undecided so far on heads & cam, but these look pretty good so far :D

Those are some sweet numbers..Should be fun to see how much that motor really puts out on the dyno when its finished

Yes hopefully we'll get some time on a dyno to tune & get some real numbers

AFR 227 heads and go with a more radical cam. Something in the 250 dur @ .050. 1 7/8 headers and you will be at 600+ hp. It is going to be a torque monster any how you do it.
I am jealous of what you are doing. Wish I had the funds right now to do it myself.

is a chet herbert cam less than $250 delivered? Earson customs made from Crane cams blanks can be had for that much. also is that a sleeved gear cam?
Chet left a bad taste in my mouth years ago. They sent me some poopie that was AFU :mad So I call him up to ask him about it and I hear old Chet in the back ground say, "I don't want to talk to another ignorant C.S. today, we've got to get packed up for the race!" So I said, " put that old C.S. on the phone."
He got me straightened out, but I never bought anything else from him.

Gordon I actually saved an old e-mail from you about your brother-in-laws engine & recently referred to it to see what heads he was running ;) . Those are indeed an awesome head, as is the Edelbrock Victor heads. There are soooo many good heads out today, probably the reason I haven't picked 1 yet. I did call Bill Mitchell Hardcore racing today tobuy a set of assembled Brodix Track1's they advertise on their website for $947.50  . That is a great price for those, but they have none left  . One of the reasons I didn't go with too radical a cam is that I don't want to lose too much torque even though I'm sure I can get more HP with a bigger cam.
George, hopefully they've cleaned their act up some. The cam is 8620 Billet for $179.95. They have free shipping but there is a $7.95 handlig fee. That's a good price for a roller cam, but I don't know about the cam gear, I'll have to check into that.
Bud from your new sig pic, looks like your running pretty strong yourself :D !

smokedtires-I'm not a small block guy, but I was wondering if your concerned about the fact that your going to have to rev it to 7000rpm to reach max power. How long will it last over time. Just curious, it looks like a very strong combination for the street.

Re: Since the dog's out of the bag, here's a peek... (smokin75-427)
Smokin75 I'm expecting the bottom half of my motor to be near bullet proof. It's based pretty much on Nascar parts, only I won't b spending that amount of time at those rpms ;) . The crank is "billet" Bryant crank, the rods are Carrillo with the 7/16" SPS Carr bolt option. The pistons I expect wil be Ross forged racing pistons. These are all going into the new Dart Little M block I just purchased :) .
I believe this engine should live up to 9000 rpms, but I won't have a powerband that reaches that far. Being a street driven car, the powerband will be well below that. One thing I do like about these parts though is that I can throw 250hp Nitrous, turbos, or supercharge down the road if I so desire without worrying about if the parts are strong enough.

hey mike my brothers running a solid roller 600 lift in a 406 11.1 compression,canfield aluminum heads,1000 cfm throttle body on a highly ported lt4 intake, 1 3/4 headers,410 gears, 700r4 trans,and that thing rips,good luck with it,thats a hell of a motor.

Re: Since the dog's out of the bag, here's a peek... (SmokedTires)
Try a smaller head a cylinder head that flows 322 cfm on the intake is has an enourmous intake port, even though it started out as 220 cc intake it will have had to have been ported and will be larger and will have slow port velocity and poor throttle response it will accelerate slowly. There is no point in having a head that flows at .600 and putting in a cam that has only.567 lift and don't forget to subtract the lash which is .022 as a guess giving you a net lift of .545 you really need a bigger cam for those heads. Eventhough you have a big motor thats a big head for a street car. One thing about picking heads is to see how they flow at moderate lifts remember .600 lift is seen only once during the valve cycle but .300 lift is seen TWICE it's the area under the curve rule. One more thing I would stay away from cylinder head that used offset rockers if you happen to break a valvetrain part during racing season you could have a hard time getting a replacement it can be tough getting ones with stock geometry at times and it's not fun not being able to drive your car.

Re: Since the dog's out of the bag, here's a peek... (SmokedTires)
I wouldn't worry at all about the motor dying at having to rev it to what a big block owner thinks is "high" ;) That bore and stroke combination just screams for high revs. I wouldn't be suprised if you could smack 10k with ease. A thing to worry about when you get that high is a valve spring breaking. In theory you should be able to putz around all day while using minimal RPMs to keep the car going, but due to the motor being easily revvable being able to stomp it and hit the power instantly. Should work out quite nicely.
And I wish I had DD2000.

Thanks all :)
Ken you make some good valid points, which is some of the reasons I'm still researching the heads selection ;) .
Schmucker that's exactly what I'm hoping for is a quick responsive engine that instantly revs to the moon :D ! I got the DD2000 almost a year ago for my birthday. You could say I've been giving it quite a workout lately

Mike - What about the rest of the drive-train? You aren't running stock are you? What have you replaced/upgraded?

Travis I have the Tom's Diff tuned posi and 30 spline axles installed along with a Tremec TKO tranny. For gears I have Richmond 3.90. The rear wheel berings were all replaced 3 years (~4000 miles) ago :) . Hopefully I won't have too many new problems with the drivetrain

Sounds sweet!
We'll have to get together over the summer, and hopefully not when our cars are locked inside the mall!

With 427 ci in torque will not be a problem. Wit hthe 3.90 gear and the 3.27 first you have you will have no problem getting that car moving. With 4.11 and a 2.2 first gear the 421 that is in the Camaro is no problem with torque. Just don't under cam it and be disappointed with it. A 427 can take a lot more duration than a 350 or 383 and still be very streetable. The 421 is very strong to 7500 rpm and could also go higher but that is all the cam is good for. It will be an awsome ride what ever you do.
