Need help, I am having problems removing my instrument panel above the steering column so i can replace my factory speakers. I had no problems getting to the passenger side. I have removed every screw that I can see, but still no luck. Surely i don't have to take apart the sterring column. Any ideas? help would be appreciated

You have to drop the column several inches to get out the driver's side. I'm sure there are a few posts in the archives that can help you with this. It isn't too involved, and it will help if you take a few minutes to pop off the steering wheel. Sorry I can't give you detailed instructions, but I've done it myself, and if I can do it... :cheers:

All you should have to remove is the dash upper pad. Mine were screwed to the bottom of the pad.

If you take the drivers pillar post off, you should have enough room to lift the top pad up and get the speaker from there. Remember there is a securing screw for the top pad in the middle of the dash.

Anyway, that is what I did. Lifting the pad gives you about 4" to work with. If I remember right the speakers are held on with nuts. I used a 1/4" rachet to get them off and on.

You don't have to remove the driver's side dash to replace the speakers. Don't ask how I know. Remove the inside lower trim on the windshield frame and then there is one screw holding it in the center of the dash and clips that hold it to the front of the car. Pulls right out with some twisting.

Ditto. I have done this on three different sharks, and it works fine. You have somewhat limited working space, but do not have to take apart the entire dash or drop the steering column. Good luck.

Thanks for the input, I removed bothe pillar posts and also dropped the sterring wheel a bit, was able to replace the speaker without a prob. Am loving my new stereo!
