Has anyone replaced the windshield posts and cross bar?
Need help! I need to replace both the windshield posts and cross bar in my 69. I have both post (2) corner brackets and the crossbar. I just need help in HOW to do this. Is there a published technique? Are precise measurements available somewhere?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I was lucky to find two vettes with problems in different areas.
I ended up cutting the WS posts, header, and Top bar from the 75.
I made identical cuts in the 70 and replaced the broken 70 parts with the
75 piece.
I took many measurements before cutting - and replicated these in
reassembly and welding.
My post is here:

Pics are currently unavailable. I'll try and get 'em up soon ... :seeya

Dave,
Exactly how did you measure? Did you cut the posts and cross bar out in one piece or did you reassemble?
Thanks

I took key measurements - like:
Bottom inside corner of WS mounting edge to top inside corner
Bottom edge of outside pillar to top corner
Edge os fiberglass behind Ttops to top edge of WS header opening
Bottom edge of WS mounting area to top edge
Mpro72vette bought the pieces that you mention. He brought them to a
shop for install, and they said that they would rather fabricate some
replacement pieces and weld them in place - rather than removing and
reinstalling the whole deal.
I'm pretty busy at work for a while, but if you can hold out - I'll get some
detailed pictures with dimensions. I can't decide how you will proceed, since I
did cut and weld back one piece only.

Dave,
Thanks, any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a 69 asssembly manual but it has no usable dimensions. Anyone know of a print that the factory might have used???

Morgan69, the GODS are smiling on you today..lol.
I was just reading the most...enjoyable...paperback manual today. I bought the manual at Books-a-Million and it's author is Lindsay Porter. The books title is Cheverolet Corvette Resotoration Guide. Goooooooooood Stuuuuuuf.
The author literally takes you though a 1969 Stingray restoration for a gentleman named John Fletcher. One of the many sections in this manual is Windshield Rust and Fiberglass Repair. If you can read and have the guts, you can follow the instructions. The whole manaul is a good read. It covers everything from fiber-optics repair to wheel bearing replacement. Good beans. ISBN 0-7603-0325-8 ($20)....yum yum!
Good luck

Thanks a million!!!
I have a 1969 assembly manual and a 1969 guidebook by Rick Bizzoco that has absolutely EVERYTHING about a 69, not much on techniques though.
I'll let you know how it turns out. I want to post pictures of my frame, but can't figure out how!

You need to have the pictures hosted on the web.
Usually, your service provider (AOL,ATT,etc) will give you web space with an
account. You need to find out how to upload your pic files to the specified site
(usually FTP).
In the meantime, I will offer some temp space to put your pictures up - to
get the ball rolling. Email me the pics, and I'll get 'em up.
