what color should my 1980 corvette motor be?
:eek: Hi What color should my corvette motor be blue or orange. Its blue now with the valve covers but see so many that are orange. Also how much would it hurt or help performance to put a edelbrock air cleaner and remove the mass air flow set up with original air cleaner? ALso does anyone know of any sites that show engine detailing pictures? Thanks for any help!

GM Corporate Blue, available at any autoparts store or even Weird-Mart.

Sorry, can't help with websites, but the reason you see so many Orange is GM used Orange prior to 77 (I think mid year 77 sometime). So after 77, engines were painted Blue or Black

Corporate Blue paint booths went into Chevy Flint Engine Plant in Summer of '76 Shutdown Changeover. Some VERY early 77's MAY have orange, but but after that they were blue....... :cheers: :cheers: :cheers:

The L82 motor out of my 80 (replaced with ZZ4) was black from the factory. Not usre if the L48 or Cali 305 were balck also. In 80, they also went with a passenger side dipstick.

Also, that's not a mass air flow setup with your air cleaner. That's a snorkle! :D
There isn't a computer on an 80, you can put on any air cleaner/carb you want as long as you don't have a visual smog inspection in your state.

Even though my '77 is supposed to be blue I'm going to paint the block orange when it's out to be rebiult/stroked to a 383 since the car itself is orange. I think the blue wouldn't look as good with an orange vette :D
