Disconnect your front sway bar.
Remove the A/C belt if your car is equiped with it.
Increase your front tire pressure.
Adjust your timing for maximum performace for your engine.
Make enough runs to determine what engine temp. your car likes and what launch and shift RPM's work best for your car.
Enjoy. :steering:

I'd have to say a line lock if you can't powerbrake. I just can't get my tires hot enough to get my butt off the line without my tires spinning ;) .

"1. lowering air pressure in rear tires"
Minimal gains at the risk of losing control. Better off buying better tires.
"2. running open headers"
Not really a FREE trick if you are talking about opening up aftermarket headers. You had to BUY the headers and if you are at the strip you SHOULD have them open to get any horsepower gains you might have received from installing them. If you are talking about some kind of "lakes plug" like on the old hot rods, it does offer a minimal boost in power and decrease in backpressure.
"3. using octane booster/advancing timing"
Octane booster..a complete WASTE OF MONEY! They barely nudge the octane above what you get at the pump. When they say a guaranteed 3 point boost they MEAN POINT 3 as in .3 So you would go from 93 octane to 93.3
Hardly worth the cost of that crap.
Advancing the timing can help as long as you don't go too far with it. Downside is it may make the engine difficult to start when it gets hot.
"4. waxing car"
Ummm...you're not driving a Formula 1 car or drag boat are you? :D

Is there a Dyno Shop in your area??? Why not get in there on the treadmill and use that information to find out what your shift points should be? Without that information you could be shifting too late or even too early ... ya just don't know.

Well young fella, come on over and sit on grandpa's knee and I'll tell you about the good ol' days of hot rodding....
Back in the late 1950's and early 1960's there was NO SUCH THING AS "TUNED HEADERS". I know...how could we have existed in the dark ages without tuned headers. We did by using a nifty little device called a "lakes plug". What it was was a piece of pipe that was bent and welded to the exhaust crossover pipe and exited right behind the front tire. A flange and a plug with two bolts capped it up for street use. So the exhaust routed through your standard exhaust system and made little if any noise. For racing, you just went down by the plug and undid the bolts (smart guys used wing nuts to get them off quickly) and the exhaust came out your manifold and down your crossover and followed the path of least resistance....which was out the lakes plug right behind your tire.
Later on the customizers got the idea of having full length chrome pipes along the side of the car with plugs coming out right in front of the rear tire.
And of course, Chevrolet re-incarnated the idea with "side pipes" on their Vettes as an option. Only they were open all the time.

Dep,
You missed dual 5" coffee cans. Good for 50hp or 60hp if you write type R on them.

Hi paul: I don't know if you disbelieve my post above or not. It was NOT meant as a joke. Guys actually DID that to their cars. And for that day it worked quite well. Since the exhaust was exiting from the point of least resistance, it was leaving the engine as quickly as possible within the limitations of technology of that era. In other words...the crap worked!!! :)
It really has nothing to do with that website about coffee cans on the end of mufflers...which does NOTHING except poke fun at rice burners.

Dep,
It was a light-hearted reply ;) . I had a 1963 Impala 327 with "dumps" on it: the exhaust was dumped just behind the front wheels. Chrome reverse in the back and Cragar SS up front. Fun car although it had Powerglide. A four-speed was a round-to-it that never came to be :( .
*Edit*-And the dumps were capped for street use.

3. using octane booster/advancing timing
I actually got more HP when running 93 octane pump gase than 104 octane race fuel... I have heared that the lowest possible octane rating with which the engine runs smooth - creates most horsepower and that higher octane only improves the performance of high compression engines. You can actually lose horsepower if you run more octane if your compression is not high enough..
BTW - I lost 15 HP with 104 octane...

"actually got more HP when running 93 octane pump gase than 104 octane race fuel'
High octane really isn't beneficial unless you have the high compression engine to go along with it. For cars with lower compression, higher octane is actually not benefecial and may work against you in winter driving. Lower octane burns more readily than higher octane in low compression cars so would actually be easier to start in winter weather than high octane gas.
93 octane premium pump gas is maily for compression raitos of 9.5-1 and higher.
104 octane is for guys that drive at the track-only, and is better suited to 11-1 or higher compression ratios.
Dep
BTW....octane doesn't MAKE horsepower...it allows horsepower to be developed in engines that have the potential to burn it.
