T&T and Standard Steering Column Disassembly Paper #1 Revised
I have determined that I had some incorrect information in my Steering Column Disassembly and Repair Instruction Paper #1 for both the T&T and Standard Steering Columns. I was led to believe that the lock cylinder could not be removed from the column unless you had the ignition key and turned the cylinder to the "RUN" position.
I have talked to a locksmith as well as "played" with a lock cylinder and determined that the spring loaded metal locking wedge can be depressed with the lock cylinder in any position. (This also means that the you don't need to have a key.) Also I have added a page #8 to both papers which includes a straight-on picture of the lock cylinder housing and identifies the slot where the locking wedge needs to be depressed.
Both Papers #1 now have a Revision Date of December 2002.
They are posted at https://www.corvetteforum.com under Steering.
Merry Christmas,
Jim Shea

These papers are wonderful and Jim has provided a great service to the Forum. BTW, I think that the URL should be:

Well I wish I had know this a week or so ago. :mad
They should make tanks out of the metal they use in the lock cylinders. I've had to buy $60 worth of cobolt drills and have worked my way up from 1/8" to 1/2" and the lock is still firmly planted in the column. One more drill size and it hsould fall out...
Thanks for the update Jim!
