Checked out a 69 vert Yesterday
Classified read "69 Convertible / auto / good cond./ 15K or BO"
My wife and I almost cried when we saw her.
This car looked like it had been sitting outside, uncovered for 33
years...needed paint, complete interior resto, gauges, suspension,
chrome, engine extras included: rusted original air cleaner, rusted
headers, rusted valve covers, etc. The only thing that wouldn't
need to be replaced was the brand new Black Vert top.
Anybody interested ???? :nonod:

Re: Checked out a 69 vert Yesterday (Troublemaker 71)
I bet it's not as bad as it seems....carpeting definitely, but the seats? Vinyl is durable and a good cleaning may bring them back, the gagues are sealed and GM's plastic cleaner will polish the speedo and tach lenses, same with the instument gagues. New ones from zip or any other source are not that expensive. The rusty parts, your local sand blaster can cure the rusty blues, paint is the big issue. and unless the car has ss sleeved calipers, new ones are needed.
If one is frugal, that car can be brought back to life on a reasonable budget, but a lot of manual labor will be involved.....
POR15 and a wire brush are a wonderful combo for the frame, if there are no holes, and one can bend his own fuel and brake lines without spending hundreds on pre bent lines.

I noticed at the Turkey Run that people were asking ridiculous prices for cars in bad condition... Especially at the current market - mentioned car might be only with $5k - $6k...

I must agree with Grand Sport C3...But GDaina; I guess I should have said "replaced" instead of "restored"...this car needed all new... i didn't
even get as fer as the vacuum and electrical systems...I have to assume
these were non-functional also.

Ed T...the car in your pictures is 10 times cleaner than the one I looked at.
I had my '71 with me, which is by no means NCRS quality, but a head turner nonetheless, and I told the guy I paid 15 for it...his reasoning for his asking
price was "yeah but THIS is a 69 Convertible"
go figure.
