Why would my paint just all of a sudden go to hell? [pics]
When I bought the car 2000 the paint was in great shape. In the past 6 months, the paint has deteriorated rapidly. It seems to bubble up first then sort of peel away. You can see pictures of this below. What would cause this? Is it just a cheap paint job or something else? What sort of prep work should I do to fix this prior to repainting?

Looks like the clear coat is peeling off. Usually a factor of not applying soon enough after the color coat. Usually the only solution is to remove it all and start again. :cry

Clearcoat delamination. Common cause on repaints is too much sanded/buffed off trying to make it glassy. When it's too thin, there's no UV protection left, and is literally sunbaked off the car.

Does the whole car need to be painted to fix this? Or just the clearcoat reshot?

Couldn't you just let the clearcoat bake itself off and just wax the paint really well?

Basecoat is so thin, you'll never get the clear off without busting the color.
Also, basecoat has no protection whatsoever from the environment without the clear, so buffing the base would be pointless.
Sorry, the only real cure is a complete refinish. You MIGHT get away with just the upper panels, but color match may suffer, and if they did the sides the same way, it's just a matter of time till it goes, too.
