Default Questions for C4 owners that road race

I am thinking about getting a C4 for my road race car. I am going full race trim (weight reduction to the max). What weight can I get a 89 to 91 down to?

I am trying to get the C4 down to 2800 lbs if that is possible?

Thanks,

Bill F.

I'm sure a race car will be that. It won't have much left for the street.

I talked to two C4 race car teams and one claimed 2400 pounds!

The other one was closer to 2600, but couldn't tell you if that was no fuel or not.

I know my stock 96 6 speed was 3220 originally with no fuel. So your number is certainly achievable if you gut interior, ac, etc.

We have a local guy who has his down to under 2800 with a full cage installed. Interior and all accessories stripped, single race seat, light weight hood, etc.

before you rip out everything that you can see, figure out where you want to race and take a look to see if there are any wieght restrictions.

Bill,

Your racing mod question is missing critical info. Nobody can answer such a generalized question about modifications and race weights because it depends solely upon what the rulebook allows. What the heck series or sanctioning body and racing class are you speaking about? For example, will the car have side windows and a dashboard? Carbon fiber parts? One race seat and no passenger seat? We also need to know the type of roll cage required (thickness & diameter & #pts), so we can estimate it's weight.

Just a car for track time and the occasional drag race. Roll cage for safety. Looking at an 89 6 speed. Cost is somewhat of an issue.

Thanks,

well there are a few easy things to do to lose weight, then everything becomes expensive on vettes. You can ditch the spare tire+carrier, go with no mufflers, use manual seat tracks, remove the stereo/ gut the interior, lose the power antenna, get a glass top not fibreglass body colored one. USe a smaller battery. After that it get really expensive, ie lingenfelters carbon-fibre hood(drool, drool), lexan instead of glass, lighter rims, race seat, new steering wheel, blah blah blah.......
