How Many of 542,411 C3s are Left...
in driving condition? We guess at this from time-to-time but let's try again. But let's update. So how many (in a percentage of the total) remain on the road? There is no right answer; just speculation.
C3 Production Numbers
68...26,566
69...38,762
70...17,316 (production shortened by GM strike)
71...21,801
72...27,004
73...30,464
74...37,502
75...38,465
75...46,558
77...49,213
78...46,776
79...53,807
80...40,614
81...40,606
82...25,407
Total...542,411
To put those numbers into a modern perspective, my daily driver is a 2001 Impala. The production run for 2002 (just one year) was about 255,000. So that gives you an idea of how rare (even 1979 ;)) C3s are.

While I can only personally vouch for a couple of dozen, I think there are probably 50% of the '68s left and 75% of the '82s with a sliding scale in between.
Oh, I can also vouch for a couple of '75s with '80 front clips and one '77 with a GM diesel in it.

317,842 are left. Absolutely, positively.
Wait a minute. Joe in Butte Montana just totalled his on a patch of black ice.
Make that 317,841.

You make a good point: the numbers diminish each day. My personal guess would be about 40% of the total.

Unless I am looking in the wrong places. I would love to have another CFI to play with. :steering:
