Purchased a helmet yesterday at the track..
The helmet was $110 and it's supposed to be legal to above 7.99...
I don't plan on ever going faster than 8 seconds

That is one hell of a deal if it is full-face.

Are helmets normally that high in Florida, or is it just at the track?

High? You have got to be kidding. A auto racing helmet is not anywhere near the price of a motocycle helmet. Maybe that is where you are confused?

I checked at Summit.. and the cheapest Helmet that was Snell 2000 approved is $189   . You can get helmets that are only D.O.T. approved for much less.. but you can't use them at the Strip...

Anyway - I got the one that's approved to 8 seconds... so it looks like it's pretty safe...

What brand of helmet did you buy? $140 is a piece of cake compared to some of the prices Simpson charges.

Hmmm, thats strange, I bought this Fulmer AFS 7, DOT and Snell 2000 approved for less than $100.00. I got a discount but, it is normally around $140.00 at the local motorcycle shops. You can see it here:

Yea your right, you will always like having one, whether you are going to the track or want to take a spin on a bike. I know what you mean, had Sigforty not have told me to get one ahead of time, I would have been scrounging for one too, at the track.

And Chris, my head is worth just as much as yours, I am sure.

Ok, but how much is your FACE worth? A cousin crashed with an open face helmet. Ever bone in his face was shattered. He went through several years of surgeries to reconstruct his face. I'll take a full face every time. To each his own I guess.

I guess the questions "should be" is it a Snell "SA" or a "M" and what year is the Snell sticker dated ??? And to whoever bought the "new" $110 helmet, the sticker inside says Snell "M" doesn`t it ?? I would be VERY surprised if it was a Snell "SA" rated helmet as motorcycle shops don`t usually sell "SA" rated helmets they sell "M" as in motorcycle. ...redvetracr

Ahhh, so thats the difference. Even though it says Snell 2000, there is an M rating and an SA rating. What are the differences in impact strength?
