Default Best of times...Worst of times...Track night...

I suck...Goodnight

Weather sucked. I went anyway. My goal tonight was to make a few runs doing 1,3,4,5 gears and skipping 2nd. If possible I also wanted to do a couple of 1,3,5 runs.

1st run.. 1,2,3,4,5 = 12.9 .... WHY DID I SHIFT INTO 2ND!!!! Oops, wont do that again

2nd run 1,2,3,4,5 = 12.7 .... I AM A RETARD SKIP 2ND!!!!!

3rd run 1,5,3,5 = 13.5 ..... Oooops, missed 3rd

4th run 1 R = Tow back to pits to fix linkage as it was hosed...lost a cotter pin...yes R is Reverse

5th run 1,5 = 12.9 at 114 DANG IT, I MISSED 3RD AGAIN, but best MPH of night

6th run 1,3,5 = 12.4 at 115!!!!!! That is what I was trying to do all night.

Time to quit and go home. The 115.38 MPH is my best ever MPH

P.S. I learned a crapload about linkage, I actually know how it kind of works now. Also, who knew your trans could be in two gears at the same time....it boggles the mind.

These were with the 502 and richmond 5speed in the convertible. My 427 will not be anywhere near this fast I think.

Thanks, but still not where I want to be.

Oh yeah, the Worst of times part was the trans problem. I thought for sure I had completely hosed the trans. I had a nice 1.72 60' time and couldn't shift after that. I was expecting the worst, but really got lucky, when I got back to the pits, the guy next to me insisted we jack it up and look at it. I tried to let him know I knew nothing about transmissions and just wanted to get it home, but he insisted. He spent about 45 minutes under the car and walked me through what he was doing and showed me what had broke, and then he fixed it for me. It was very cool.

Maurice,

I had the exact same problem.. It cost me a possible 11 second run.. I had a 1.676 60' time and couldn't shift into 2nd.. The reason was the clutch linkage which has to be adjusted every once in a while.. After I adjusted it it worked fine...

I think he skips gears because of lack of traction.. He has a Richmond 5-speed with very short ratios.. Shifting into 2nd probably caused excessive spin...

The reason I am skipping gear is because it is so slow to shift. It isn't butter smooth like it supposed to be, but very difficult and time consuming. I consistantly run faster when I skip gears instead of hitting all of them, the richmond has very close gear ratios and I seem to be getting better times by not hitting 2nd, when I do go to 2nd, I am literally in it for about 1.5 seconds before hitting my redline again and the time it takes to shift in and back isn't worth the time I am actually in the gear. I ran a 12.9 going 1st to 5th at 114 MPH.
