I need better tires!
With the new ZZ4 I am really having a hard time getting any bite with my old tires. I never had this problem with my old engine and standard torque convertor. This evening I took a buddy for a ride, we were on dry asphalt rolling about 15 mph, he told me punch it. The tires spun like we were on grease, the car starting fishtailing to the right and I hadn't moved 50 yards!
Another time at a stop sign from a dead stop I boiled them without even trying. I'm not used to this kind of torque, my old engine must have been a real dog! I don't know how I'll ever manage to race anyone, I can't keep the car straight with anykind of power at all.
I guess I'll just have to learn to deal with it. :D

Try BFG 255/60/15s on the rear at 28 lbs. Carry a spare and a full tank of gas for more weight on rear tires. Eat more french fries......

After installing my ZZ4 I was soooo worried about not running the engine too hard for the first 1000 miles that I freaked out when I spun them at almost every stop sign and traffic light. I thought I was gonna blow something in the engine! Those darn engines are tough on tires!
I run Dunlop 235/60/15 (I think) and they still spin! Enjoy it!

Will, I'm running BFG 255/60's at 28 psig, and I already weigh 250, maybe I should strap a couple of bags of cement on the rear bumpers. :D I think it is just going to take me a while to get used to the extra power, and then I'll be looking for more!

whats the torque rating of ZZ4s? what rear gears do you have? what are the size tires you are using now? i have some BigO SuperSport tires and they bite hard. they are 255/60R15s. if i stall at an amazing 1500rpm ( ) and launch, i cant hear the tires spin, but i leave about 10ft of light black tire strips. thats on sticky asphault. on cement, theres no biteing to be seen. i know mine would acat alot like your with my old 225/70r15s. i still have those because i plan on roasting them and getting video of it :D

Back when i had 8.5 X 15 centerline rims. I tried BFG T/As in both the 275/60 which at 28 inches tall are about the limit and the 295/50 which is just under 27 inches tall. I got them in H-speed rating and only used them for a short period of time. Because I needed Z-rated.
Both of those sizes can handle up to low 400 hp motors

You will get use to it eventually. It took me a while after I put my zz4 in. I took it for the first test spin around the block and was leaving rubber everywhere. That was with ZERO timing in the motor. I found even more power after I went to the track turned horrible times and found the timing problem. With 12 advanced in it the car is a whole new beast. Especially after I put the new carb on it. Part of the power is what contributed to me losing control. So be careful!! I am still trying to get my car together, and hopefully it will be done by the first.

The ZZ4 is rated at 405 torque. The biggest problem I have is the tires are old and hard, but I want to keep them for a while longer. I need some time to restock my rathole money so I can put 17" wheels on the car. Concrete is the worse, with the tires and the torque it slicker than owl poop! My driveway entrance is a little steep, so I crawl up the ramp from the street and then if I goose it just enough to get it moving again, I leave a nice little patch on the driveway.
