Two men arrested in ’chop shop’ bust

GRAHAM — Police arrested two men after finding about 60 high-performance vehicles from all over the Puget Sound region scattered in a back yard here.
Detectives began investigating the so-called “chop shop” ring about five months ago, Washington State Patrol trooper Johnny Alexander said.
The cars found in the yard in this town 15 miles southwest of Tacoma included a late 1990s Mercedes and a 2002 Corvette. The vehicles were being dismantled so their parts could be sold, Alexander said.
Police also seized half a dozen marijuana plants from a large shed on the property.
Identities of the two men arrested yesterday were not immediately released.
Also yesterday, investigators served a search warrant on a Kent home believed to be linked to the chop shop. Police found two stolen cars on the property but made no arrests.
Officers from the State Patrol, Pierce and King County sheriff’s offices, and Kent, Renton, Bellevue and Kirkland police departments took part in the investigation.
