The fender wells weren't painted, at least not fully, from the factory. It's kind of messy but you can do a pretty good job of stripping overspray paint (not urethane) with brake cleaner followed by a lacquer thinner scrub-down.

If you do a rattle can cover up of the overspray, I'd wait a while for the paint to fully cure. You are likely to end up with a dusting of black in the paint which will have to be polished out.

we still have some overspray in mine too. i am going to use rhino paint, so that it keeps rocks and flying rubber from hurting the glass. :D

In '70 the factory did some blackout inside the wheel wells. When I restored my rear suspension I used John Deere Blitz Black inside the rear wheel wells. Found some red grease pencil date codes on the underside of the left fender too. :D ~Juliet

Probably alot of people don't do this, but I black rubberize undercoated the whole chassis and in the fenderwells with 3M undercoating(Pt# 8883). Pretty expensive to do at $10.99/24oz aerosol, but I was working with a new painted chassis and decided I was not going to give rust a chance. Can be found at any NAPA or probably any other parts store.
