They will not fit in the stock locations because modern speakers have a bigger magnet then the stock ones.. I and many other forum members have made custom boxes in the back to hold 6x9's. If i can find the pictures of my install i'll post em.

The answer is yes.

Modern 6x9s also protrude out the front.

Sorry, I have to disagree. The Pioneers do fit; a bit tight but they do have a low-depth magnet.

Yeah, but those are practically "retro" 6x9 speakers. The young 'uns would be totally embarrased to have PAPER (gasp!) speaker cones.

Again I have to disagree. They are hardly paper-cone speakers.

get a good set of 6.5"s 9 time out of 10 they sound better when equally matched. and amp your speakers! its the best enhacement you can do for your sound, and not because it goes louder, because it get clearer.

Go with the speakers Paul is using. They'll sound better than you expect...

Paul...

With these Pioneer's you were able to use the stock Corvette grill with
no modifications? That is difficult, cause the grill is flush & in the back there's not a lot of room for the magnet. Are you happy with the sound from these? Thanks a lot Paul...

You can make them fit. I did Rockford Fosgates. Plan to spen a few hours though. I had to take out the stoarge cover, and cut, file bend, reinforce the mounting brakets for the sotrage cover. You can cut away quite a bit of sheet metal, but I had then reinforce it in certain spots. I have a '78 Pace, and wanted to keep the stock appearance with better sound. Coupled with new front speakers and a hidden CD changer, I was able to keep the stock AM/FM/CB, but still have CD music when on long trips. I woul dplan the better part of the day to do it up nice. When I bouth them I thought the rears would be a snap and the fronts hard. Was I wrong! :smash: :smash: :smash: :)

Yes I did ;) . Had an employee leave abruptly several days ago and now I have to work rather than just supervise.

Tom,
The Pioneer units have a shallow magnet design so they do fit without modifications. They are tight and the housing projects out about 1/4" but no one will notice. And yes, they sound great! Hope this pic comes up. The Forum is iffy tonight.

Behind these panels in the back of mine are decent (but not butt-kickin') 6x9's that sound great to me.

The bazooka and CD pop right out and you don't even know they were there.
