I F'd up.... Damaged my 80528 carb.. :( :( :(
I'm a f'n idiot... I can't even change jets anymore..
Well - I changed the jets in my 80528 Holley... I was done in 25 minutes.. When I started the car - the left fuel bowl was leaking a little bit.. so I tightened the 4 screws that hold the fuel bowl... Well - I overtightened one of them bolts and messed up the thread :( :( :(.. I'm so mad :mad :mad :mad at myself... Now I have to find a good carb shop around town that can fix the carb... DAMN!!! :mad :mad :mad

Isnt that the HP series double pumper? Can you maybe find a helicoil small enough to go in there? Just a thought and Im sure you have already thought of it.

Helicoils are stronger than the stock threads on your carb - hardly a "quick fix" and relatively cheap and easy to do. It's exactly what a carb shop would do to it anyway.

Good to know that I'm in good company, that sounds like something that
I would do. And yes have it fixed right the first time, you'll be better off
in the long run.

One thing you might consider if you plan on more jet changes. Pick up a float bowl from JEG's or Summit that has the plugs in the front to enable you to change jets WITHOUT removing the bowl. I have one for my 4160 on the BOSS that I used when I was setting it up (original VERY rare carb), then put the original bowl back on when I was satisfied it was right. Get the tools as well.

The float bowl screws are also supposed to be torqued.... but you need an inch-pound torque wrench.
This is a common error. Can you install the screws without torqueing them???
Sure. But now you know why Holley recommends a torque wrench.
Even more common is lousy repair work...
To get the proper thread depth you need the long (non-standard) helicoils and a special helicoil bottoming tap. This is what I use and the thread depth is correct when I'm finished.
Most carb repair shops do not use the long helicoils because they do not have either the longer coils or the bottoming tap. Just a FYI
The short helicoil will work, but it's not a "great" job.

Uh.... back to square one...
That is what the torque value is for... to provide the TIGHTEST SEAL without stripping the threads, distorting the metering block, or warping the main body.
One of us is missing something here.
