Re: Interesting 68' Vert project car in the Autotrader... ('79ProwlerOrange)
Well - it says that the car has some new parts... and it looks in the pic as if the body is ok too... If the frame is ok - and the car runs and drives... I would pay up to $7500 for the car.. I'm sure that the seller would accept a $7500 cash offer - however - I might be wrong about that...
The car has a hardtop too which also increases value.. I also like those slotted rims.. A little polishing and those will look awsome...

Yeah, that looks to be ALMOST as big of a project as mine and I got it for roughly $1500. :D

Re: Interesting 68' Vert project car in the Autotrader... (GrandSportC3)
Very true. i personally dont think i would pay more than 5K without some more specifics. i would also like to how how custom they have gone. hood is obviously not original, and if it is a fairly rare C3 i would restore it to original. otherwise im thinking a 610 with a 8-71 blower. :D
and just to clarify, i wasnt flaming above, i really did want to know your reasoning.

Re: Interesting 68' Vert project car in the Autotrader...
If I didn't already have too many projects and too little $$$$$ I would consider the $7500-$8000 range for that car, provided the frame is sound and I would need to see a list of new parts that go with it. Of course if I were to take on another project my wife would probably kill me. :D Although she did say a rebuldable C5 would be cool, so that's what I'm working towards next.

hood is obviously not original
Don't forget, 68-69 L-88's used the cold air chamber hood. The hood could be from a 68 L-88, or purchased over the counter from the Chevy dealer, or from one of the repo vendors...you just don't know whether or not the hood is the real deal...I have an original 69 L-88 hood...by the way, the 69 hood will not fit on a 68.

An "all original" Vette in that condition would run easily over 10k

Olivier,
That's the good choice. Be aware that there are too many "some hard to find" one year parts on the 68, Like: doors and push buttons and bezels, center gauge bezel, Ign key/switch on the lower dash, T-Top pins receivers on the windshield corners, Parking brake console, shifter plate, backup lights and exhaust panel, Radio/vent *****, door panels and door pulls, 15x7 rims, fan shrouds, rad core support, frame, front spindle assemblies, wiper motor, brake light switch, steering column...What else?
It took me years to restore the car back to "The way it's suppose to be". But It's a blast to :steering:

Don't forget ze hood.....68 hoods only fit 68's. Course if you change out the latching mechanisms to 69 and later, then you'r in business.

For most of the other parts you mentioned - you can use 69 parts... It will still be stock look but with not 100% correct parts... It all depends on your point of view.. I see the potential for a beautiful car and others might consider originality and re-sale value.. This Vette will probably never be a real collectors item.. but if somebody wants to fix it up and keep - it's for sure a good car (still depending on the condition of the frame)...

Re: Interesting 68' Vert project car in the Autotrader... (GrandSportC3)
I agree with you Oliver. i would rather see a vette with nice wheels, the L-88 or other custom hood, a custom paint job, a good adjustable suspension and the works, but lets say i buy that '68 and stumble on something that shows its %100 and L-88 car, or some other rare '68. it would probably **** me off because i would want to bring it back to original and sell it. i wouldnt frame-off restore it, but just enough to make some money off of it so i could buy a power nothing, base motor, very non-rare '68 vert, and get with the customzing.
