Need deep groove pulleys; Got a source?
Folks,
My stock 427/390 water pump, crank, and altenator pulleys on my 502 will not keep the belts from squealing when Im WOT.
Can anyone suggest where I could get a set of deep groove pulleys for water pump, crank, and altenator. Cant afford a surpentine system

I had trouble years ago when I first started making higher rpm motors. My fix was smaller diameter crank pulley.

The oly prob with those aftermarket sites is that they dont state if those pulleys are deep groove or not
Ive bought from Paragon before. If I do go thru them, what model engine should I order for that used deep groove pulleys?

I'm not an expert on this but I think some of the 327 hipo engines used the deep pulley. You could also check a few GM performance sites like Pace or Scoggin Dickie. I'm pretty sure I saw deep groove pulleys in the GM Performance Parts Catalog.

Fixr,
Got what I need, right in the GM perf catalog. I found a BB crank pulley. Ill go one peice at a time until squeal goes away: $60
By the way, parts seem to pretty reasonable. BB aluminum water pump: $115

I didn't have the catalog at work because they expect me to do stupid things, like my job. But I've gone through it at home and you can get some nice parts for reasonable prices. I got my balancer and flywheel through them for about the same price it would have cost me at the local discount parts store.

Melvin, make sure that you're running the small belt that goes from the crank to the water pump. Without it, my 427 squealed at full throttle.

Flare, not sure by what you mean by small belt from crank to water pump. I have the same belt from crank, water pump to alt. I beleive we have the same. Do you mean a smaller diameter belt?
If so, where do I get one. Ive been to NAPA, autozone, you nameit, same squeal. I didnt have this prob running my 427/390, but my 502 is really squealing the belt at WOT

Melvin, if you don't have power steering, your 427/390 should have had 2 belts. One short (in length) belt that only connects the water pump and the crank (in the groove closes to the block). The second belt wraps around the water pump, crank, and alternator. Without both belts, they squeal.
Check out this picture:
I think I got mine from the Corvette Central catalog.

Re: Need deep groove pulleys; Got a source? (Flareside)
Flare. Holy cow. I have no PS or AC, and I only have one belt! In your pics, the non ps 527 has two belts. Question: How does the second inner belt as shown fit and tighten? There is a no way to tighten it

How on earth would you expect to TIGHTEN a belt that only goes to 2 unmovable pulleys????? What IS wrong with that picture?

It's pretty easy, I ran a short belt between crank & waterpump because I removed the AIR stuff and had a spare one, it's quite usefull in case the other belt snaps at least you have drive to the water pump.
