Your opinions please... Which gauges should I get?
My odometer, ammeter and clock don't work, the tach and oil pressure are mechanical and I am converting to TPI. This makes it somewhat necessary and cheaper to just get all new gauges (once again) rather than repair or update the originals.
My car is a 1973 metallic yellow with a black interior.
So here are my current choices:
The autometer sportcomp has the entire set 5" mechanical 160mph speedo, 5" electric tach and all of the others at 2 1/16"
The procomp has the 5" mechanical 160mph speedo or 200 mph speedo and 5" electric tach, but they don't make the procomps in 2 1/16"
So should I get the entire sportcomp set, or would it look OK to get the 200mph speedo and tach from the procomp line and the rest of the gauges from the sport comp line?
Here are photos of each:
Thanks for your opinions :):)

I personally like the 160 speedo. I think a 200 is just too impractical since it won't be over 125-130.... I mean 70.

Being that your car is yellow I personally would opt for the ones with the yellow in them. I think as far as looks go, those would complement everything the most. I saw a silver 69 with all silver ultralight guages and it looked sweet with the body color & guages matching. :)

:D:D
The only problem is that the procomps don't work for the center cluster gauges. So I'll have to mix them with the procomps for speedo and tach, the rest would be the sport comps.
If they made the procomp in 2 1/16, then It would be a no brainer, but they dont.
So is it better to mix them and have the ones that I want for the speedo and tach, or better to keep them all the same??

Speaking of gauges...
When I get this new engine in I was thinking of going to a column based tach and aftermarket water/oil pressure gauges as I just don't trust the old ones. I don't want to mess up the original interior, but does anyone have any ideas of a good place to mount a set of gauges(oil, water) that won't look tacky?

Re: Your opinions please... Which gauges should I get? (bgrice)
While we on this subject guys what aftermarket guages fit well in early C3s? I've heard numerous peope say they got the 5" autometers to work
"with a bit of work on the bezel"...
so what's the definition of a little bit of work. I really don't want to have to fuss to much with these as the project list is too long already. I just want some nice looking guages that pop in.
Any suggestions...?

For the 5" speedo and tach, you are very limited in choices. Basically original, rebuilt, Nordskog, Dakota Digital or Autometer. The center cluster gauges have more choices, VDO, Summit, Sunpro etc...
Does anyone know how much work it would be to adapt the 2 5/8" center cluster gauges to fit? This is the only way that I could get the procomps to work there since they don't make the 2 1/16" gauges.
:)

I'd prefer the 160 speedo over the 200. If I were replacing all of my gauges, I'd put the AutoMeter speedo and tach in and put in the VDO Vision electric series gauges for the center console.
The 2 1/16" gauges are pretty easy to fit. I managed to get them behind the outer bezel for a more stock location. To make the 2 5/8" gauges fit, you'd just about have to hack up the entire bezel, and even then I'm not sure they'd fit. Or, you could go with a custom made bezel.

Re: Your opinions please... Which gauges should I get? (LakotasRose)
I put the intellitronix digital gauges in my '76 before it was totalled, but I decided to stick with analog in the '73. The digital was cool and all, but I want the '73 to look a little more stock in the cockpit. :) The dakotas are very cool too, but $$$$
Here is what my 76 looked like:
I could always do this again. It would actually be cheaper than buying all of the analog gauges individually, but I think that I want to go with the analog. What do you guys think?

Analog look racier, and fits in the cockpit better. stick to analog. i hear they are alot more accurate too.
