What hp can I expect out of 400?
I am putting a 400 in my 79 and am curious of the hp it will produce. 1000 miles on 72 400 that is punched out 30, has 379hp cam, 882 heads, factory aluminum intake. Nothing special but I'm used to a 305 for the past 15 years. Also what type of exhaust should I look for? I'm going duels with duel cats.

Make sure to get 2 1/2" dual exhaust. The 400 will like that.
I'd change the heads on the motor. I am not fond of the 882, and I think the 400 deserves a little extra love.
You could have a little rocketship, if you do everything right! Remember, do it right the first time. :)

With a stock setup like that I'd expect a great off the line followed by around 4500 rpm pull before the heads run you out of air.Still fun to drive though! :seeya
