Small Ding in Forged Piston... OK?
Bought Forged TRW's used along with Forged crank, and forged manley rods. All the pistons look to be ok except a small ding in this one. Im just alittle concerned, will it be ok?

I think you'll be OK if you carefully deburr the ding and smooth it up with a small file. That is, of course, without having held the piston in my hand. i think you've got about a 99.99998 percent probability of being OK, though.

ACK!!
I wish the ding was in the top of the piston. Not that its' so much better, but remember that if that side does not get machined down well enuf it will affect the rings on that one piston.
At the cost of a single piston, I'd replace it. And then bring it to the shop that balanced the engine and see if it fits with the other ones.

Thanks for the replys. My point of building a strong forged end was to run a healthy amount of nitrous, around 150 shot. I dunno how healthy it is with a ding like this....

I would just buy a replacement for that one.
It shouldn't be a problem, but for the few $$, might as well be safe.

Buy a new piston. You should be able to get one for $20-$40 for a single piston. Better now than later. I've run forged pistons with small nicks and such, but that's a pretty good ding. You could create a hot spot on the surface of the piston, causing it to burn hotter in that one spot, thus causing it to burn a hole in the piston over time. Add a shot of nitrous and watch it burn a hole really quick.

I would just debur the piston and reuse it. The valve reliefs in alot of pistons cut a fair knotch in the side right by a piston ring. This is no worse then my knotches in my 11.25 Seal Power forged pistons in one of my bigblocks
