Dumb Starter Solenoid wiring question
Actually, I've got two.
What terminals should I use on the starter solenoid?
and,
If I don't have the alternator in yet, will the starter engage?
Thanks,
David

Re: Dumb Starter Solenoid wiring question (djlangford)
Big terminal is naturally connected to the battery cable, there is also a 12 gauge wire connected to the big terminal (It is supposed to be a red wire) The black wire is a ground that is usually held in place with one of the starter bolts. There is a 12 gauge purple wire connected to the "S" terminal and if your car has a points type distributor there is a 20 gauge yellow wire connected to the "R" terminal.
I guess the starter will turn over with the alternator disconnected, I haven't tried it, but since the alternator is for charging the battery it shouldn't interfere with power to the starter.
