Did the Beach Boys Actually Drive Cars...
That they sung about? I know this is a strange question but I am in the midst of doing a few things and "She's Really Fine My 409" came on the stereo. Spawned a question. Does anyone know if those fellows were really car people?

I *do* think so! :yesnod: :yesnod:
They certainly WERE at the right place at the right time. They had it all :yesnod: with money, fame, fortune and in the era that muscle cars were beginning a heyday.
And the Beach Boys were young too.

The "409" song sounds terrific on CD in my Vette. :)

Al Jardine is a noted classic collector, every year he is at the Barrington-Jackson Auction. I remember seeing him sell his "Little Deuce Coupe" there a few years ago.

I can't remember which band member ti was, Paul, but the car you hear in the background in "409" was the 409 that one of them owned. :yesnod:

Brian Wilson has always been a Corvette fan and has had many different ones throughout the years. The last interview I seen with him he had a white 99 convertible.

According to the liner notes on the back of their "Little Deuce Coupe/All Summer Long" CD, LA Disc Jockey Roger Christian, who was the co-author of most of the Beach Boys car songs, was the owner of a Deuce Coupe. Mike Love also owned one. BTW...Brian Wilson added the part "And one more thing, I got the pink slip daddy" to Little Deuce Coupe. Back then when you raced somebody, it wasn't for bragging rights...it was FOR THE TITLE (pink Slip)!!! Anyone willing to race their Vette against someone for pink slips? Didn't think so :D

P.S. For those that live only in Corvette-land and have no idea what a Deuce Coupe is, it's a 1932 Ford Coupe (usually with a 283 or 327 smallblock Chevy installed). If you want to see an excellent example of one check out the yellow Deuce Coupe that "John Milner" drives in American Graffiti. Best part is the scene where he uncorks the headers and you hear the engine running. Crank the volume on your TV up and it sounds like M-80 firecrackers exploding out the exhausts. Music to my ears :)

Only one of the Beach Boys was supposed to be a beach boy.
Jan of Jan & Dean was supposed to have had a Corvette - a C2 which he wrecked.

The Chevy 350 has been the most popular engine for an engine swap for a long time.

409 is a bored & stroked 348. Did you see my reply to your question why GM likes the 350 C.I. engines in Corvettes?

Ganey,
Yes I did! Largest displacement SB, reasonable weight, maximum torque consistent with best gas mileage. Many people forget (or do not know) that the 350 was the standard engine in Chev four-door passenger cars at one time.

Boy, now I know I'm old! I remember when the Beach Boys were nearly a garage band. They liked hot cars, some owned them, and Dennis Wilson like to race them.
I was living in San Marino, California in the early '60's, when they hit it big. It was a FABULOUS time to be a teenager........Bob's Big Boy on Colorado Blvd., Pasadena on Friday nights..............one kid drove a '62 421 red Pontiac Grand Prix to school, and another drove a red F.I. '63 SWC, another a '62 409 Impala SS- this is when they were new! Many others drove woodies, or chopped and channeled deuces. It was like living in the movie "American Graffiti", only better. Those were the days...........
