Cam question... XE262H or XR264HR ??
I was playing around with DD2000 and got these numbers:
XE262H
363hp @5500
405tq @4000
XR264HR
416hp @5500
444tq @4000
L48 with TrickFlow 23* heads, performer intake, headers, dual exhaust, rebuilt qjet. TH350 w/ stock converter and 3.55 rear.
Is the XR cam a good choice for a street driven vette? Is it really that much better than the XE cam?
Thanks.
Here's the page with them both on Comp Cams web site:

Don't know the specs on those cams but as a rule the roller cams are better all around the only problem is they are three times as expensive.
OK just read the specs, as you can see with the roller you can get a higher lift with the same duration. This is because the ramp can be steeper because of the roller.

If you look at the .050" numbers, the XE256 is actually a closer match to the XR264. I'd say those numbers are a bit optimistic for the XR264, but the roller is much better IMO.
Wider powerband, better fuel economy, easier on valvetrain.

I have the XE262 in my engine with just about the same setup you mention with the exception that I have a Holley Street Avenger 670 carb and shorty headers with 2 1/2 in. exhaust. So far I have about 50 miles on the engine and so far so good. I was wondering what kind of numbers this combo would put out. I think the XE262 kinda sounds a little rumpier than stock.

On another thread, someone (sorry, don't recall which thread or the poster) someone mentioned that DD2k assumes that ANY roller cam is ground with a all out race profile. As a result, even though valve events are listed correctly, it will give an overly optimistic rating for street type roller cams. Having said that, I would still expect a roller cam that had similar drivability characteristics to make noticeably more power. Looking at it another way, the roller cam that makes the same same power as a flat tappet cam will have better drivability.
If cost (bang for your buck) is an issue, the flat tappet XE (or something similar) will likely provide more hp per dollar than a roller. If I had your set up, I'd be inclined to use the flat tappet and put the $$ saved into a converter, shift kit, and carb and ignition mods.

I figured something had to be off with DD for it to add that much power for just changing to a roller cam.

Agree w/ Vetterodder. It's supposed to be in the pgm. instructions.
You can use the stock converter w/ the XE262 cam 383.

Can you input the specs. of a roller cam into a tappet cam profile? Would that at least get you closer?

Re: Cam question... XE262H or XR264HR ?? (Vetterodder)
does the XR come in a kit like the other cams or is the $240 price for just the cam?
