Default wooohoooo just got a 700r

im happy, i got a 700 r from a guy that i just got out of jail, he didnt have the money to pay me so i made a deal that i get the trans out of his 80 camaro that he just built (stock build not performance). the car is a piece junk but the motor and trans are good. the tranny has about 5000 miles on it and is driven by a major pothead, so im pretty sure it wasnt really abused,,,,,plus i think the motor is only pushing about 250 hp. :D

He had an 1800 dollar bond and owed me 270 (my fee),,,but he doesnt have a penny to his name and wanted out bad, so i made my deal. im getting the tranny, Converter(stock stall), det cable, shifter cable, and since he works at a trans shop he's getting me a yoke also.

I think i got a good deal (now i just hope he did a good job building the trans)

does anyone have any suggestions before my install, i would appreciate any helpful info you might have to share. :)

Check out Bowtie Overdrives. They have everything you need to finish the job, including converters. And you really should get a TV Made EZ system, unless you want a lot of grief! :smash:

With the 400 hp motor and NOS it won't last a day :( My first performace 700 from TCI or B&M that was supposed to handle 450 big block HP out of Jeg's lasted one day hehind my 355 ci.

I raised hell and got a second one and it died the 5 th pass down the quarter mile it had been in the car one month. I had to drive home with only 3 & 4 gear. I really raised hell and their third super duty tranny with bigger pump and kevlar clutches lasted about two years.

Keep in mind 700r4's were built to go behind 4.3 v6's and other low power motors. I had a standard build 700 that lasted 2 years, maybe 10,000 miles behind my 3.55. the 3 rd gear clutch pack is very weak instock form. I would seriously consider putting a shift kit in it to help boost your line pressures and keep the unit alive. Is the trans a 27 spline unit or a 30 spline unit ?.

The stock 86-89 corvette convertor is good for about 2200-2400 rpm stall speed. It retains lockup and can be had for about $100. Make sure you go with a good remanned convertor, otherwise that trans will be back out of the car before you know it.
