Good C3 books? Need Christmas gift ideas...
Since parts for motors and complete suspension are a bit over the $200 limit I have for my Christmas list from "Santa" I need some ideas for some Corvette books. I was thinking "How To Restroe and Modify Your 1968-82 Corvette" by Richard Newton ($24.99) would be a good one. I was also thinking "Modifying Small Block Chevy Engines" by John Lingenfelter ($17.99) would be a good book for myself and also to add to my dad's collection of excellent racing small block books. "Corvette Troubleshooting Guide" ($9.99). And then probably the Assembly Manual for $19.99. Any of these a bad choice, not worth the price, and can you guys suggest anything else better?

Those are all good choices. And I find this one very useful. Full of pics and correct numbers of this and that.

Both are excellent. The Lingenfelter book has tons of great info in an easy to understand layout. You may wnat to also look for is Corvette Weekend Project (or something to that effect). I think it is a HP book also. Good Luck. Tell us what you think of the books!

Don't forget the Corvette Shop Manual for your year...probably the most sound book investment.
It's unfortunate that Volume 3 Corvette Restoration & Technical Guide is not available for the C3. Noland Adams wrote Vol 1 and 2 for the C1 and C2 otherwise I would recommend it!

Schmucker,
Here are my picks for Corvette/Racing books !! Chevrolet-Racing?? 14 years of racous silence (avail from the SAE), Corvette Racers, Chevrolet GrandSport. Now the Racing books, The last open Road and/or Montezumas Ferrari both by B.S. Levy You (and your dad will LOVE any of them). ...redvetracr
PS: Mark Donahues book was a great "read" also!!

I already have the shop manual for it. I'm getting the assembly manual for sure. Looks like I have about 3 more books to buy also. Excellent.

It depends on what you want to read about. If you want to just read about different cars (fantisize, drool, get ideas for a project) then All Corvettes are Red or some other books might suffice; but if you want to do restoration/ maintenance work, the A.I.M., Shop Manual or one or more of the resto books would be your choice. The Corvette Restoration Guide by Lindsey Porter is a bit misleading because although the cover shows a C2 and C4, the project car is a 69 convertible.
Another place to look, if you ahve the time, is the close out or bargain bins at some of the bigger book stores. They occasionally have some good deals in there.
