Stall Converter help
I'm looking for more power off the line and was thinking about a stall converter but have no idea which one to get. Here is my current set up
350SB with XE 262 comp cam - in-262ex-270/ in@.50-218ex@.50- 224
weiand dual plane action plus intake
head work (valve job,backcuts etc)
dynomax ceramic coated headers
true dual exhaust
3.55 gears
Would my set up benefit from a stall converter? If so which one, and what would i be looking at for performance increases off the line? My 60 foot times vary from 2.12-2.23 with really old street tires. Thanks, Justin.

Re: Stall Converter help (Justin79-L-82)
When I used to play around with the Dragstrip Plus computer simulator for my old 79 Vette (setup similar to yours), a 3200 stall appeared optimum. I used to run a 2000 Holeshot. I wished I had a chosen a higher stall. If you frequent the tracks alot, 3000 stall would be a good choice. If your mainly street driving, a 2500 stall would be a good compromise. Hope this helps.

Re: Stall Converter help (nunus79)
I use it mostly for the street with the ocassional trip to the track. I'm looking at the b&m toquemaster 2400?! Whats the difference between the torque master and the holeshot? Anyone have any opinions on that one? Any would i need to add a tranny cooler with it?

It appears from their advertisements, the Holeshot line is beefed-up internally vs. the Torque-master line. I wouldn't be surprised that the torque multiplication be greater on the Holeshot design also. Whenever you add more slip to the converter, you also add more heat. Run a tranny cooler.

If you're going to pull the tranny, why not do a swap to an overdrive? I have a 200-4r with a 2200 stall converter. I can't give you any input on racing, but on the highway it is truly sweeeeeeet! :yesnod:

Well, i definatley do not have the money to put a new tranny in, but maybe one day who knows, although overdrive would be nice to have on the highway

Doesn't the original rad come with a tranny cooler? Whats the difference between the original one and an aftermarket tranny cooler?

I ran the B&M 3000 Hole Shot.....Very nasty out of the hole.....Your combo begs for this converter.....You will love the way it pins your eye ***** to the back of your head.....I never had any trouble with this converter.....Only reason it's out now is I changed to a 700R4 with a Super Yank 3500 going in.
Try it you'll like it..... :seeya Cappy

Re: Stall Converter help (Alwyn678)
I'm doing my best to get a th200-4r at the moment & have been blasting emails to Bow Tie Overdrives about it (they deserve a plug here: Bow Tie Overdrives are exceptionally helpful :) ). Info I've got from them on this subject is:
External tranny cooler not required unless you're hauling heavy loads or pulling trailers. Just use the existing cooler connections in the rad & fit a trans temp gauge for peace of mind.
They discourage people from going higher than a 2200rpm stall as it starts to feel "looser" above that level.
I was asking about "normal" street use :reddevil so the advice may well be different for a car being used mainly on the strip.
Hi Alwyn, how's life?

Re: Stall Converter help (UKPaul)
I run a Torquemaster 2400 with my 3.70's. Flash stall is about 2300 with my mild setup. Work's great! I also run a tranny cooler inline behind the stock cooler. I just run an inexpensive cooler I bought at Auto Zone, like $35. Top fuel burnouts with a little brake manipulation!

Re: Stall Converter help (8T1-7T9 BIONIC VETTE)
I have no experince with a stall that high, in normal drive does it work just fine. Also then when it's hammer time are you brake to get to the higher stall or just pushing the gas pedal. Finally, do the tires spin too much that it would actually hurt 60' times?

Hi Alwyn,
Doing great - it's my Birthday  (the answer is 42!). Haven't been on the forum much lately. Since the upgrade my PC keeps locking up while "Building menu". Then the Boss sees that my PC has died & just as he's looking at it the darn thing unfreezes & the forum pops up!! Bit of a giveaway really :( But I have been doing more work than usual!
