Default don't AFR's come with 1.47" valve springs??

My AFR 190 cc heads FINALLY arrived after like 12 weeks. They look pretty nice but I only had a few minutes to check them out. I did notice that the valve springs are 1.25" double springs. I thought the base model AFR heads came with 1.47" springs. Thats what the catalog shows. I hope I don't have a problem with this. Not that I'm ready to put the heads on, but after 12 weeks I want to close this deal and focus on all the other projects of the rebuild.

Thanks
Chris

What cam are you going with?Whats the lift and is it a roller, solid,?If your running a regular hydraulic with low lift then 1.25 is fine, those springs are probably good to at least .500 lift. But it says there supposed to be 1.47

Mine came with 1.47" springs rated for .550 lift. With the 1.60 rockers I'm at .546" lift and they hold solid to 6000+rpms without floating.

Chris return them :smash: The bigger the spring the less heat. Years ago i always ran big springs. Like 1.46 inch 155 lbs at the installed spec for a say .570 max lift without coil bind. Then you use the retianers with the higher keeper point. so your closed pressure goes down to say 125 lbs closed seat amd the max lift becomes .600

Thats how i stayed out of valve float till 7000+ on H-flat cams. Then they never break or loose many lbs over time.

My present setup was over 225# at installed height I got them down to 195# and they are nearly the same as the day i put them in with 1.56 dia and .635/.644 lift.

What did AFR have to say? If your going to use a H-flat cam 1.26 and 125 lbs or less closed pressure would be fine

George,
after talking to the engine builder they think there is no way those springs would last with .525" lift. I think I'll take their advise rather than the guy who sold me the heads. He agreed to take the heads back and send me a set of full cnc heads straight from afr. the only down side is another long wait.
