Default '78-'82 seats in a'77????

I hear the '78-'82 seats are much more comfortable than any other C3 seats, and would like to put them in my '77. How hard of job is this to do in terms of mods that need to be done, or do they just bolt right in? Any other problems I should know about? Anyone have any pics of them in a '77 or earlier vette?

Got 'em in my 71. MUCH more comfortable than OE. Istall is pretty straightforward. You will probably have to fabricate the floor mounting brackets to get the proper height.
Try Contemporary Corvette in PA or Gary Gruhala.

It's pretty much plug and play, as long as you go with the non-power seats.
Pulling the seat out takes all of five minutes. Maybe you can borrow the passenger seat from a friend and see how it treats ya!

It's pretty much plug and play,

And you are in BIG TROUBLE, if that idea of PnP is the same as Bill Gates' idea. :mad   :yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod:

He means plug and play is complete bull. You have to shut the computer down, install, have it attempt to install, get frustrated about it not finding your drivers. Hit something, try again, get it after an hour to install a $10 part. USB, now that's a bit closer to plug and play.

I sat in a '78 that had the later seats installed, my head was a lot closer to the T-tops in that one, which is a real problem since I'm 6'4" with a lot of my height in the torso. I fit much better in the stock ones atleast. Some modifications could probably get the seats down and everything to make them fit fine, if you aren't tall like I am, I wouldn't worry about it. I didn't notice any addition comfort though. Would be just nicer because they pivot up higher so the seatbelt may not get stuck between the seat and the car when you put the seats forward.

I am interested in this also. So are we talking unbolt the 80-82 seats with rails and simply bolt them in?

Or do we use the earlier rails and bolt them in? Or are we drilling with which rails?

Thanks

I'm 99.99999% sure that you just rip the seats out of the 80-82(assuming not a power seat) and bolt it into the 68-78(non pace 78).

Chuck Harmon installed 79 seats in his 69. I do not have a problem with height in my 78, but my seats are stock (pace car) and the glass tops supposedly give more headroom. I'm 6'2. Little bro does not fit well in the car, but he's 6'5/320.

I think I should fit fine, I'm 6'0". Does anyone know exactly what rails to use?

Like I said... unbolt the seats from the frame, bolt them into your car. Use the 78-82 rails.

'79 seats bolted right in on my '76. Used the complete '79 seats (rails, etc.). Be aware that there is a difference between the driver and passenger side rails.

I have them in my 77 and they are a bolt in. I'm 6'0 and I clear without too much difficulty. I would like a little more clearance but I think I'm on the floor already. Go for them if you find a set. Whats wrong with your present seats though?

I had my seat already reappolstered so I guess it's a mute point for me. However I heard that the 78-82 seats will not flip up with the T-tops on, is this true?

When I redo my interior I'll be swapping to '79-82 seats as well, unless I happen to find C5 seats in oyster leather...

78-82 seats flip up/down whether the tops are on or not?? There is no interference between the seat and the tops. :conehead :hat

Also there is no problem with the tops put in the cargo area - even with the "forum speaker box mod" for seat interference.

Can you restate what you are trying to ask?

Best Regards
Brent...

Thanks for the replies. My stock seats are OK, but the driver's side definatly needs to be reupolstered, I heard the 79-82 seats are more comfy, and I personally like the look of the 79-82 seats. Does anyone know what colors they come in? I'd prefer black.
