Serched the archives, many different ways, rarely is there a post that tell what heads people are running. Some have the heads they run in their sig, then I reaserch and try to find out if that perticular head has angled plugs or not. Still don't know if they have clearence problems or not.
Brings up a ? Do all angle plug heads have the plugs at the same angle or does the amount of angle very from head to head?
kgull
Don't have the cash for the super comps, but willing to spend bux for the comps. Super comps defenitly have the clearence for the angle plugs! Part of what you are paying for. The hooker website says the super comps are designed for angle plug heads.
Thats exactly why I'm asking, they also say the comps won't fit angle plug heads. Your super comps are designed for angle plug heads but you could still use them on straight plug heads. I want do do just the opposite! Clearence might suck, cook boots and wires, pain in to change plugs,,,but,,,,,could work.
Thanks

I have hooker comp.s with trick flow g2`s.The plugs on these heads are at a slightly different angle. The only clearence issue I had was on #2&3.The fit was fine I just trimed the flange a touch so a sparkplug socket would fit eaiser.I could get it on but was a tight fit.

I had 186 casting double humps straight plug with Headman 1 5/8ths headers and I melted the primary tubes. So I bought the 1 3/4 Hooker S/C I had to change three of the plugs with an open end/box wrench. Because you couldn't get a socket on them. All my three other angle head types are perfect.
Certain manufactures make shorty spark plugs. I used to run Bosche Patinum 4 tip just for extra header clearance and the fact that you didn't have to index the plugs. :chevy

That is what I wanted to know. I don't want a to have to remove a header to change a spark plug.
Is there enough clearence that the plug wire and boot don't melt?
gkull, are your super comps ceramic coated?
Thanks

Routed in the stock position? Did you route them under the primaries? Or over the primary header tubes?
Thanks

I had problems with my #6 plug install on angle plug heads with Hooker Comp headers....I dimpled the header using a 1" pipe and a solid wack with a large hammer....then used the shorty plugs made by Accel.....Plug went straight in using regular socket....So much for stubborn situation.....Nothing like a good wack with the fix-it-all adjustable hammer..... :seeya Cappy

Through the holders on rear of block, down through the Y shields on the side of the block,#5-6-7-8 out of Y shield to plug,#1-2-3-4 out of Y shield through motor mount to plug.As stock every thing is routed against the block and comes to the plugs from the inside. The only part of the wires you can see is the caps and a small part of the wire on 5-6.Chevy had a clean set up just a PITA to do,if you route the wires this way[unless they are now]before you bolt the headers up it will be easy.

Re: Hooker Compitition headers, spark plug clearence, angle plug heads (J75)
This thread has thrown me a curve ball. I about to install the Hooker Super Comps.
I have brand new plugs now. Should I change them to angle?

My wires now, are ran like you describe. In the ignition sheilding, through the engine mounts and below the cast manifolds, all the wing nuts boot sheilds etc. I was suprized to hear that you chose that routing with headers. I see the installation of headers as an opportunity to run the wires from above. Get rid of all that stuff.
Am I taking the wrong approach here?
Thanks

What kind of spark plug you using?? Use ACCEL SHORTIES and you won't have clearance problems.

C3w,
There are a few reasons I routed my new wires in the stock position.1.I would rather look at the chrome shielding then a distributor and wires.2.I don`t want to have the wires in the way every time I pull the valve covers or for that matter do any thing around the heads.3.After a while those pretty yellow, red or blue wires get dirty then you still get to look at them.I know you can clean them with solvent.4.I have owned many cars in my life and have routed the wires many ways and for me the stock position works best on my vette. Now understand this is just what works for me,others like them over the top. Both ways work fine. And I guess the big thing is I like the stock look of the shields and routing. :steering:

I can appreciate everything you are saying. I guess either way has merit and drawbacks. Thanks for the point of view. Gotta make some decisions here. There are some killer looking looms available!
SDP running the AC R44TX standard plug. being limited one kind of spark plug? The ACCEL shorties? They any good?
Bionic dude, Not crazy about the idea of dimpling brand new headers, how big a dig we talking about here?
Thanks all!
Merry Christmas!!
