Default Is there an official Tech Bulletin for the lazy clutch pedal?

Enough people have had this issue now for Chevey to address it.. Have they?

If so can I see the bulletin and what their fix is?

I can't believe that more people complained about a smelly A/C unit than their damn clutch pedal not returning...

Chuckster, C4C5spec. addressed this matter on the other forum. He claims there is such a fix and that it has come out the GM tech center. He didn't call it a TSB as I recall but it did involve changing the master cylinder and some other unidentified things. I have become interested in this topic as I am now experiencing this condition. Perhaps he'll read this and respond tonight.

I hope he responds too. I have done the modified line but is still gets "sticky" on a hard run.. Not as bad as before...but still not perfect..

It might just be a PI right now...

I had mine fixed for the 2nd time under warranty last month. The first time they replaced the entire clutch assembly and it fixed the problem. But again after about 12K miles the problem returned. Took it to the dealer and this time they replaced only the master and slave cylinders. This alone did NOT fix the problem. I can still get the pedal to act lazy under heavy acceration and fast shifts. Kinda frustrated but so far it hasn't cost me a dime for the fixes, only time in the shop. I figure within a few more months I'll need a new clutch again and hope to go with the 2003 Z06 clutch (or the 2002 if the part #s match). I doubt I'll get another warranty fix though, but I'll try for it. Car has 34,450 miles on it right now.

c4c5 stated on that "other forum" thread that there IS a fix that cures the clutch pedal woes that so many M6 owners have and continue to have. But c4c5 said that ALL the details of the fix must be retained in GM technical channels; so he is NOT at liberty to post what causes the problem or what the fix is. He has obligations to his employer. I guess we can understand his position.

But the question is why all the secrecy. Clearly there is a design problem. The failure rate is high among cars that are run hard. But among affected cars, the flywheels, pressure plates, and clutch rotating discs all appear to be fully functional. That points to hydraulics....

So why the secrecy???

Did they replace yours originally with a 01 clutch assembly?

....Did they replace yours originally with a 01 clutch assembly?
My 01 Z06 exhibited sticking clutch pedal at 13K miles in the fall of 2001.

After a lot of hassles with my dealer relating to botched installations, my situation was resolved this way. Two Chevy field engineers replaced my clutch with an 02 Z06 clutch and slave. Master cylinder was NOT replaced and it contained DOT-4 fluid. There were no indications of failure or abuse in any of the parts that were changed.

By 20K miles, the clutch pedal was acting up again on hard acceleration involving multiple shifts.

My 02's clutch pedal is acting normal so far at 1200 miles. Doubt it will last, however.

But the fact that GM is doing so many of these under warranty indicates that they understand that there is a design/QC issue. So why the secrecy on the particulars??

Hi there,
First, the facts. GM and Corvette engineering have been working tirelessly on this issue.
Make NO MISTAKE here, this is fact. IF YOUR DEALERSHIP CONTACTS TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE, with the symptoms that are given. The repair will be given to them along with a technical assistance case number.
As I have stated numerous times, duplication of the problem must be seen, before the fix can be implimented. Some clutch issues, can be traced to other things, NOT JUST THIS FIX.
The supposed theory on the restrictor plate causing the issue, IS FALSE.
The theory on just a hydraulics causing the issue, IS FALSE.
Interrelation between components is what is causing this issue, only when driven hard.
I am NOT at liberty to disclose further information at this time, as there is NOT a TSB, only a preliminary document within the technical assistance network, that is available to all GM dealers whom need it.
This is fact, and should be taken as such, before the flames begin.
After 17 fixed at my dealership, NOT ONE reoccurance of the condition, even by drag strip usage.
Only half of these were warranty, the others were paid, and satisfied with the repair.

I must have missed something c4c5, because I didn't see any flames or even the hint of a flame.

We appreciate that you have an obligation to protect the proprietary information of your employer. I certainly take NO issue with YOUR position. It's GM that I'm disappointed with.

The persistent fact is that clutch pedals of MANY members keep sticking and NONE of the parts that are being replaced are reportedly showing ANY APPARENT sign of failure. And once "fixed," the problem has a high incidence of recurrence (except the fixes performed by you. :) ). That fact would seem to merit an explanation from GM. I suppose at some point it will. Either officially or through the usual informal channels.

Hi there,
First, the facts. . . . .
Thanks for the post, and as always, the expertise. Look at the silver lining folks, it sounds like a real fix is on the horizon. Of course, you have to find a tech with c4c5's skill; here's to the hunt.

Thanks for your replies C4C5...I was starting to have this problem w/ my 01 before I traded it. I hope it doesn't happen to my Z. Maybe a tsb will come out before then.
