Default Carbs: look alike to me?

I have been looking at carbs for a while now. When I see them in the
catalogues, the Edelbrocks, Q-jets, and the Carter's look very
similar. Are they all put out by the same company?

Any big advantages to one over the others. I have heard from some of my
friends that Carters are very dependable and need very little adjusting. Here
on the Forum, I keep hearing the praises of the properly tuned Q-jet.
The more I research, the more confused I get.

I guess it is probably like all car stuff, personal opinion. I have not had enough
experience however to have an opinion, so am looking forward to hearing yours.

Default Re: Carbs: look alike to me? (TJRed76)

Carter AFB and Edelbrock Performer are very similar, but one uses some plastic parts, where the other uses brass? Can't remember for sure, but I believe the Carter uses the plastic(read not as durable) and the Edelbrock uses the metal/brass.

Q-Jet is totally different carb. since it's a "spread bore"(secondaries are larger than primaries) and the AFB and Performer are "square bore" carbs. since their primary and secondaries are the same size.

Many forum members have had great luck/results with a Q-Jet rebuild performed by forum member lars of Denver Co. (At a very reasonable price as well)

If working properly and tuned correctly, it's my understanding that the Q-Jet is hard to beat for street / cruiser useage, with excellant performance and economy results.
