Default How Valid is a 1970 Chevrolet Pre-Delivery Service and Adjustment Sheet?

As I am tearing through the documents of my new car I have found the form listed in the Post Title, it is real authentic looking and old, signed by Rusk Boswell. In it is the Trim and Paint 411 976- Blue on Blue Veh. Ser. # 194670S411404, Vehicle Number V0519CTV, ??????? Trans. Number POE27B, ???????? Axle # 1CAZ42370 does anyone know what that stuff means and how valid is this sheet?

The predelivery sheet is certainly a valid piece of paperwork if it is real. There are plenty of reproduction sheets floating around out there... I think that I have maybe fifty or so for the 1969 model year. Pretty decent reproduction whoever is responsible for creating it. My personal feeling is to never base judgement of a car on a single document. The car, the owners, and the paperwork all have a story to tell... You need to find out what that story is.

Some basic information on your codes:

976/411 - Mulsanne blue/blue vinyl

V0519CTV - V (Flint engine plant), 0519 (month, day - May 19 [1970]), CTV (ZR-1)

P0E27B - P (Muncie transmission), 0 (1970 MODEL year), E27 (May 27 [1970]), B (close ratio transmission [M-21])

1CAZ42370 - 1 (the assembly shift if I remember correctly), CAZ (heavy duty 3.55 to 1 ratio), 4 23 70 (April 23, 1970)

The information on the sheet is interesting. The 11,404 VIN indicates the car was most likely built during the first part of June 1970. The engine assembly date of May 19 fits well, as does the transmission assembly date of May 27. The differential also looks OK with its April 23, 1970 date. Overall, it looks like the driveline components fit nicely with the assembly date of the car.

A couple of items that I noticed that I would investigate further. The engine code listed is for a ZR-1 (CTV). The transmission for this engine should be an M-22, but the code on your sheet (the "B" in the last position) indicates an M-21. The CAZ code for the differential is for a "heavy duty" (in this case that means half shaft yokes with caps rather than u-bolts) unit with a 3.55 to 1 ratio. The 3.55 was listed as the standard ratio with the M-20, the economy ratio with the M-21, and (in the case of the ZR-1) the performance ratio with the M-22. Generally, owners of LT-1 powered cars opted for lower (higher numerical) gears due to the engine's powerband... Just a bit odd in this case.

The transmission code would has me wondering a bit... I know I'd be underneath the car as soon as I could to verify the information on the sheet against the information stamped into the transmission.

Regards,
