New exaust
I need a new muffler, the old one has a hole in it. I was just wondering if I should go back stock or put something special under her. Does the chamber type work well? Like more horse power, cause I wanna go faster. I just got a price quote of $600.00 for a complete new everything. Does that sound about right?

You don't say what they plan on providing (headers, pipe size, muffler type, etc.).
FWIW, I got a 2-1-2 system with the mufflers (MagnaFlows ~ $70/ea.), catalytic converter (hi-flow 3" in, 2 2-1/2" out; ~ $130), and a custom front Y-pipe, all for $750. The only thing original is the manifolds.
I think you'll see the most HP effect from headers. Where ever you go, they should let you "test" various mufflers, so you should be able to get the sound you want.
Good Luck.

Re: New exaust (Rob 68)
I'd put something different from stock on it. You'll like it. My favorite mod so far was putting true dual exhaust on my '77 with Flowmaster 40s on it. I didn't have the money for headers but they WILL be put on early summer.

I drove my vette to the exhaust shop with just the newly installed headers. I had the guy put 2.5 inch pipes and Vortex mufflers(high performance mufflers) and i reused the original exhaust tips. Costed me $300+ the cost of the headers($200)
