Holley Street Avenger 770 or Demon Carb 750 for a 1974 454????
I need some input here gents?
I have a stock 1974 454. It's time for a carb change. Have had a couple of guys I spoke with about 650's for sale but I think a 750 is the way to go since I am starting to make this into a true performance machine.
Thoughts on the Street Avenger or Demon? Pro's, cons??
Thanks,
Texx

Depends on what you mean by "true performance machine". Built 350-383's require a 750-800 CFM depending on how high you RPM them. A 750 would be great for a stock or mild HP upgrade, you'll need more depending on how aggressive you build your engine.

Deen is right about the cfm. It would be like me using a 600/650 cfm on my 383. It would be probably have better drivability. But not maximum effort power.
Ganey got me thinking once. He stated that with a dual plane you could use more cfm. In your case a 850 while a single plane manifold would work better with a 750.
I know nothing about the avenger so I can only comment on how happy I have been with my 750 speed demon and now my 825 race demon on 383 ci.

I was considering the same change to a demon 750. I played with the old quad a little bit after it's rebuild and it does much better then I ever would have thought. It runs so good now that I decided to stay with the quad and put the carb money into the suspension. Don't underestimate the potential of a well setup quadrajet, they do pretty well.
