Starter motor pinion meshing with flywheel probs
Got a 69 350/350 4 speed car in the workshop, has 168 tooth ring gear and offset starter bolt nosecone, but will not mesh and start. tried three different starters and all the same. looked at my 81 4 speed and took measurements and found starter on 69 seems to sit further out toward chassis rail than my 81.
cannot shim starter in wards so ended up making one offset mounting stud, eccentric shape so i can adjust slightly the starter pinion/nose cone position when its bolted up.
never ever struck this b4 with any of the hundreds of chev engines i have owned and worked on.
normally only two ring gear sizes and two starters does all.
Anyone else had this problem? if so why and how to fix.
