alright, to you stall speed experts which speed with this cam and gears....
Should I lean more toward 2700-3000 stall or 3500-3800 stall for the engine in my signature? Thanks to BAD-L88, I have 3.70's that are going in. So will I have problems with the converter still slipping at highway speeds with a 3500-3800 stall and 3.70's or will it be locked up? Should I go for the 2700-3000 stall or 3500-3800 stall? Like I said I'll be running 3.70's and heres the cam specs
Duration at .006 Lift: Intake 308° Exhaust 318° Centerlines
Duration at .050 Lift: Intake 234° Exhaust 244° Lobe Separation: 112°
Lift at cam: Intake .325 Exhaust .340 Intake Centerline: 107°
Lift at valve: Intake .488 Exhaust .510
Timing at .050 lift: Open Close

Exhaust 59° BBDC 5° ATDC
Oh yeah, this is a TH350 tranny

Of the two I'd go w/ the 2700-3000 stall- the other would be too loose & wouldn't be close to fully engaging at normal freeway speeds/RPMs. Slippage creates heat which hurts trans life. Either way it would be a worthwhile investment to get a good trans cooler.

I had a cam that was 230/230 @ .050 .480/.480 My 3000 stall Hughes converter worked very well. I've had that cam behind 3.08's, 3.55's, and 4.11's. All ratio's worked well, but i'd say 4.11's were the best. I have an overdrive transmission with a lockup converter, so everythig calmed right down on the highway. The 3.08's were the only gears that wouldn't break the tires loose if you floored it at 25-30mph.

Your stall converter should be rated for 1000rpms higher than where you cam comes in. So for example if you had a comp xe268 and it comes in at 1600, you could get away with a 2200-2400. This is just a rought guess and everyone I've talked to including Jegs and Comp Cams say's somewhere between 700-1000
