Default Info for 81 owners and maybe others

Just a quick note that if your gauge lights ever go out and you check your fuse for the gauges (7.5amp) and it is still good do yourself a favor and check the fuse to your tail lights (20amp). If the tail light fuse blows your gauge light fuse will get NO power. Ask me how I know? I spent the whole day tracking that one down ARGH!! :smash:

How odd. Thanks for the warning.
That's almost as bad as those old Ducati's that had the ignition wired in through the tail light. If the tail light bulb burnt out the engine wouldn't start.

Well that's good information to know. :yesnod: I can about imagine how you know that. I've learned a lot of things that same way.

thing s have been that way for many years with GM. Anytime you are working without a wiring diagram and you have an electrical problem you should check ALL your fuses to see if they are good. on the late models its even worse as these are prone to poor connections between the mini fuses and the connectors they go into :smash: :smash:

It's times like this that the price of a wiring diagram is even cheaper, compared to the price of the time you invest chasing these things down! Not to mention the massive headache you'll save yourself!!

yeah,
I actually find that it can be quite useful. GM's trucks are like that and if you are pulling a trailer that blows the taillights it lets you know by taking out the gauge lights with it. I imagine it is designed for that purpose specifically, to let you know there is a problem with your running lights on your vehicle.
