2 questions about Dynomax/Hedman headers
1. Do any of you have either of these headers (small diameter, long tube versions) with a small block engine and TH400 transmission, and if so, did you have any problems with headers or exhaust clearing the tranny?
2. Have any of you hooked up a chambered exhaust to these headers? We originally planned to use the ram's horn manifolds and bought the chambered exhaust from Allen's. I called them and they said they would swap them for the header version - good people! But the guy warned me they would be "loud." Loud is not bad, but I would like to be able to drive it on the street.
TIA.

Re: 2 questions about Dynomax/Hedman headers (lyonsh)
I just installed Hedman Hedders on my '75-400 sb, turbo 400, and was not impressed with the fit at all. Drivers side fits ok, but pass. side very hard to get into place and when its there it touches the idler arm. I phoned hedman and all they had to offer was that my moter mounts must be bad. They are brand new. He also reminded me that heating and bending the tube to gain a little clearance will void the warrenty. I told him "Thanks for nothing" and as you can guess I would not recommend useing hedman. Also, the tranny cooler lines had to be bent in a big way to keep them away hedders. If I was doing it again I would probably try Hooker Hedders. Good luck.

I had Hedman #68300 headers on my '75 with a TH-400. I didn't install them myself, but I know they pissed off my mechanic. There were clearance problems, not to mention that I had A/C and didn't buy a replacement compressor bracket, so he had to jury-rig a fix. My Hedmans just came off – they’re for auction on eBay, if you want a cheap, dirty pair.
I decided to get Hooker Super Competition headers for the new motor.
