Finally - all 4 wheels touch the ground
Well after nearly two and a half months - the vette rests on all fours again. I finished the rear end rebuild today by...
1. Bleeding the brakes: I'll tell you what - Speed bleeders WORK - I had no problems getting a solid stream of fluid with no air bubbles using these things (I obviously can only state that about the drivers side caliper, it being the only one I can see during the bleeding process) but the pedal feels good.
2. Install parking brake cable - the new mounting locations on the offset trailing arms made this a real effort but finally got it.
3. remount the tires and lower the car to the ground
4. finish tightening the spring mount.
All I need to do is reinstall the Exhaust (30 mins)...Reinstall the battery.... and fire it up. I'll have a friend follow me on the test drive to make sure the car doesnt crab all over the road with my ballpark alignment settings - before I take it to Bee-line automotive in San Diego.
It's nice to finally have it sitting on the ground. I'll be driving it tommorrow :smash:
UPDATE 2/23/02 - I got up this morning and put the exhaust back on - reinstalled the battery and was prepared to crank and crank to get eh beast started. I was pleasantly surprised when it fired literally on the first turn of the key - even after sitting for 2+ months - GOD i LOVE THIS CAR - have an exhaust leak at the Catalytic convertor so I need to fix that before I am roaring down the road.

Good job. I have to rebuild my entire rear and replace all the old bushings, spring, bolts, and repaint everything. I just cant wait to have it all done in time for spring!

Congratulations an thanks for the advice on mine a couple of weeks back. I hope to get my trailing arms back soon and then get it all back together. My exhaust was welded on by the former owner so I had to cut it off. So, I will still have that hurdle once I get the rearend and trailing arms back in.

Nice going! I actually took the 68 around the neighborhood last week. Didn't have a windshield in it but I couldn't resist. That's the first time that the car has moved under it's own power in about 20 years! Felt so good!

Great job, glad to hear it went well. I just finished rebuilding the t arms and bearings :smash: and pulled the rear carrier out of the rear housing. Found one carrier bearing cup really galled and pitted and the rear didn't even make noise.
