Default automatic tranny question...errhhh maybe stupid?

The newest C 3 I have ever owned was a 1979 and all of them have been standard trans..the last being an L82 4 speed. I just picked up a 1982
fully loaded 22,600 original miles 1 owner car. Awesome..there isn't even scale on the cross members??
Question? when you put this puppy in gear the back end seems to sink right down like its displacing weight onto the rear tires?? Is this the way this goes??
It's kind of wierd...

Mine has always done that, even when it was 100% stock. It's just the pinion trying to climb the ring.

Yes it is supposed to do that.
It's crouching getting ready to pounce :D

It's the torque pulling the car down...

On live axel cars when you put them in drive the rear jacks up, but since the Vettes Diff is mounted to the frame it goes the other way.

My '77 has done that from day 1. Even when she was just a baby. :troll

My wife has a 82 and it dose the exact same thing. No knock or clunk just does a squat. My 80 has very little movement when put into gear. I was thinking the bushings between the differential and crossmember were bad, but so many people have the same experiance I guess its just normal.

It is one of the most intimidating things to other racers.
:reddevil
Siting there at a red light doing a partial brake stand and watching that 18 year old's face   , in his ricer. Is perhaps the greatist thing

You can reduce the amount your differential is rotating against its rubber bushings, and thus changing the geometry of all the rear suspension stuff, by replacing the one under the front tab with a poly bushing.
