Ignition upgrade - any recommendations?
I think I have decided to upgrade the stock HEI ignition, thanks to my off topic friends.
I've been looking through Jeg's and Summit and now I come to my C3 brethren and ask for advice on which is best.
I was told that Pertronix Ignitor II sucks but it doesn't look like I can use it anyway because it is for points replacement and I already have the stock HEI.
I was looking at the Pertronix Flame Thrower module and coil. Or maybe even the Flame Thrower tune up kit with a few extra goodies in it.
I also found the MSD module and coil in Summit, but it's a bit more expensive than the Pertronix (maybe for a reason).
I don't really want to install a separate box so I've only been looking at the stuff to stay with my current HEI setup. However, any advice will help.
Please say WHY you like a specific setup better too.
Thanks,

Avery, I have msd6al and am very happy with it. Before it was installed, when I started the motor on a cold morning [ no high idle ] I would have to feather the gas to keep it running. After the msd was installed it stayed running on it's own. Rick

The MSD Module is a good piece , I ran it on my camaro before I went to the box. It replaces the OEM module and is good to much higher rpm's than the factory one. Just about any decent coil will do the job. Get as high a quality wire as you can afford.

I am running a Holley module with a Summit brand coil. Pulls strong @ over 6,000 r.p.m.
Unless you plan really high r.p.m.s, I don't feel those expensive aftermarket ignitions are improving much.
Horsepower nosing over @ 4500 - cam limited?

But I still would like to find out if a better coil and module would improve anything over stock.

I went with the MSD-6A last year. It was a little more responsive, runs smoother, burns cleaner, HP's are up, but not as much as I would have liked. Although runs great at high RPM's, I'm also planning on other upgrades that will need the ignition upgrade.
