Just got the price estimates for paint.

Just got the price estimates for paint.
It is going to cost $1500 to get it repainted in the original color (white), and it will take a week and a half to get it painted and out of the shop. Or $1700 to get it painted Admiral Blue and it will take two weeks to get it painted and out of the shop. If we choose to get it painted Admiral Blue the guy who is painting it will paint the body, the door jams, and the insides of the doors (so it will look like it came from the factory in Admiral Blue.)
The guy who is doing the painting is a good friend of my dad's and he is the only painter in the area that a local car dealership trusts with the Vettes they sell. My dad has seen the body work he has done on Vettes and says he does a very good job, so it looks like we found a good body man.
Do these prices sound like they are about the right price or are they kind of high to get the car painted?

That sounds very reasonable. I painted mine myself and it cost me almost $1000.00 in materials for Dupont Chroma-Premier basecoat/clearcoat, all the primers and thinners and sandpapers.

Sounds like a good deal. I would check out some of the guys work work first. I can't get one done for less than $3500 here in Memphis.

For that price it sounds like he's just going to paint on top of your old paint, if you want the paint to last really long you will need to have the old paint removed first and then have all the little body work done, that would cost around $3000-$4500.

Sounds almost to good to be true. He is probably going to rough up your existing paint and spray over it. What type of paint is he going to be using? I painted mine myself with base coat/clearcoat and it cost me over $1000 just for the material. If your existing paint is not peeling or flaking and all you want is a shine this probably is a good deal. If your old paint is having problems and you spray over it you are wasting your money.

That’s a serious bargain if the work is good. I’ve been quoted 6 – 10 grand… minimum. I’ll be doing the body work myself.

Mike,
I should have been more honest in my earlier post. Here is what it cost to paint my car. And very little/minor body work. Dupont Chroma Premier paint. I do not see how that job could be done for that price.

I don't know how you guys find paint jobs so cheap. I could only find one guy that would even quote it, and he said it would start at $10,000 and go up from there. So, I did it myself with PPG and it cost me $1000.

We spent about $5000 with some body work, strip, block, paint, and color sand. I did all R & R of chrome, trim and etc. If some one had done it all about $7000. $500 is house paint. $1500 - $2000 is light sand and spray. $4000 for a typical strip, mask and paint at a shop that knows how to do Vettes. Upwards of $10,000 for the best of show.

Well, my dad has seen the work this guy does and my dad says he does a really good job and you would never be able to tell it was repainted. The paint is flaking, peeling and chipping in various spots on the body so it will need a complete repaint.

George,
Thats Just about the range I found here on the East coast. It was the primary motivator for me to do it myself and after doing it, I can understand why a good paint job costs what it does!

He is going to strip the paint, fix some minor body imperfections, and repaint the whole car for $1500-$1700. I am not aware of the paint type he will be using YET. But as soon as i find out I will be posting on here to ask you guys if it is a good type of paint.

I had a real cheap price quoted for my car.$1500.... It has been in the shop for a MONTH and it has only been lightly stripped so far.. the guy is going to do the right thing by the end of the job(strip complete,re-do chrome, instal my new rubber, base coat clear coat etc...), but I feel as if he is sitting on the job since he is doing me a favor at that price. Sometimes you get what you pay for .
